Trivia

According to legendary SFX technician L.B. Abbott, this film used some out-take footage of the model of the S.S. Queen Mary used in The Poseidon Adventure (1972). In this TV-movie the scene is where the ship is listing to one side and then begins to right itself. This was actually a rejected special effects scene because the miniature wave that was supposed to capsize the model in "Poseidon" was too small and had to be re-shot. Luckily that 'bad footage' was saved and came in handy for this TV-movie. Also, every scene of the ship at sea was footage from "Poseidon Adventure" (mostly establishing shots) since the original model of the Queen Mary was no longer available for filming. See more »

Good and Plenty, but boring
27 December 2002 | by (Southern New Jersey USA) – See all my reviews

I don't know exactly why Irwin Allen produced this movie. It's like a repeat of his first sea disaster film but with more of gun violence in it. I would also believe that he wanted to make it into a TV series as well, but I guess that flopped. The characters are very good in this TV movie, and the storyline fitted perfectly with the current events of the 70's without over dramatizing it. Like The Poseidon Adventure, the film was filmed aboard the Queen Mary but in more extensive areas like the lounge and the Royal Suite Cabin. Although the movie is good in general, the special effects are some to laugh at for a 70's movie. If you are a disaster freak like I am, try watching the movie. You just may like it.
