This Is Us Recap: Power of Three

8 hours ago | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

Need to catch up? Check out the This Is Us premiere recap/post mortem here.

This Is Us‘ second installment is a relief. It continues with the same heart and humor displayed in the premiere, delivering warmth and comfort as handily as though it were a bowl of matzo ball soup fresh out of the kitchen. On the whole, the hour gives us more detail on the drama’s central family, allows Kate to cut loose a little and sticks not one but two characters in some seriously dopey haberdashery.

Kristen Wiig, Zach Galifianakis Talk Breaking Character at ‘Masterminds’ Premiere

18 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

While much of America was glued to the first Presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, Relativity Studios rolled out a black carpet on Monday night for the “Masterminds” premiere at the Tcl Chinese Theater in Hollywood.

Absent Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and producer Lorne Michaels – who were needed in New York City for this weekend’s 42nd season premiere of “Saturday Night Live” – stars Kristen Wiig, Zach Galifianakis, Owen Wilson and Mary Elizabeth Ellis gathered to celebrate the long-gestating Jared Hess-helmed film.

Galifianakis was joined on the carpet by David Ghantt, the real-life ex-con he plays in the film. He explained to Variety that the first time they sat down to meet over lunch in Santa Monica, he was instantly able to find the good in the bank robber’s DNA.

“It was easy to have empathy for him,” Galifianakis explained to Variety. “David is actually a very sweet guy. »

Will Forte & Jorma Taccone Will Write MacGruber 2

20 hours ago | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

MacGruber director Jorma Taccone confirmed on his official Twitter account that he has started writing the sequel to the original MacGruber film starring Will Forte and Kristen Wiig. Taccone uploaded a photo of the script with the headline: "No joke.#MacGruber2."

He added yet another photo of himself and actor Will Forte, who co-wrote the script, announcing that the two have begun writing with the headline: "The writing hath begun!!! #MacGruber2 @OrvilleIV."

MacGruber started as an SNL skit which depicted Forte as a mediocre secret agent who would utilize everyday objects to create weapons which would help solve his missions. The skit would then turn into a feature-length film which starred Forte, Kristen Wiig, Ryan Phillippe, Val Kilmer, Powers Boothe and Maya Rudolph. »

Lena Dunham: How Leslie Jones Triumphed Over Internet Trolls

21 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

For Variety’s latest issue, we asked Lena Dunham to write a tribute for “SNL” regular Leslie Jones, one of 50 people to make our New Power of New York list. Here’s why Jones represents a new generation of movers and shakers that capture the best of Manhattan.

I first met Leslie Jones at “SNL.” She was a new writer and I was a terrified first-time host, being shuttled from office to office to hear pitches. Every conversation was a blur of clever puns and Harvard dude ingenuity (not knocking that approach, but it was different than mine). When I sat down in Leslie’s office my entire body breathed a sigh of relief: she was open about her own anxieties but so funny it didn’t matter, and she pitched a sketch in which I played Jesus’s prospective publicist.

While that never made it to air, I had no doubt that Leslie herself soon would »

How 'SNL' Can Get Its Post-Trump Political Credibility Back

21 hours ago | Rollingstone.com | See recent Rolling Stone news »

When Saturday Night Live kicks off its 42nd season this Saturday night, fans will be tuning in to see how the episode's host – Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie – fares in her first not-ready-for-primetime appearance. They'll be curious to see what the three new cast members (Mikey Day, Alex Moffat and Melissa Villaseñor) will bring to the table, and what sort of gap the dismissal of Taran Killam and Jay Pharoah may have left on the show as a whole.

MacGruber 2 Is Currently Being Written

26 September 2016 7:47 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

By all accounts, MacGruber was a failure. A feature comedy born out of an SNL sketch, the film couldn’t even make back its budget, not to mention it received a lashing from critics. However, in the years since its 2010 release, it’s found itself amassing a pretty large cult following, and now, it seems that we’ll be getting that much requested sequel.

We’ve had a few updates over the years on the status of the film, but with nothing concrete seeming to emerge, many thought that a MacGruber 2 was nothing but a pipe-dream. Putting paid to that idea is a new Tweet from Jorma Taccone, who penned the original. If we’re to believe what he’s showing us, then it seems that the wheels are finally starting to turn on the sequel.

Rejoice! 'MacGruber 2' May Actually Get Made and Here's the Proof

26 September 2016 6:00 PM, PDT | Movies.com | See recent Movies.com news »

Out of all the films born out of Saturday Night Live sketches, none have reached cult status quite like MacGruber. Six years ago MacGruber -- inspired by an SNL sketch starring Will Forte as an inept, selfish MacGyver-like action hero -- arrived in theaters with a bit of a thud, as in it didn't even make back its $10 million budget.  But that was then and now the film is looked at as one of the great comedies in recent years, boasting so many ridiculous quotable moments, perhaps the most memorable being a random license plate number: KFBR392. For years fans have championed a sequel, much in the same way they did for other cult hits like Anchorman and Zoolander, and for years Will Forte has teased wanting to make one if anyone actually allowed...or, well, funded them to...

Writing has begun on the sequel to Will Forte's MacGruber

Based on the repetitive Saturday Night Live sketch by the same name, MacGruber really had no business being as funny as it was. Even so, the film obviously wasn't everyone's cup of tea as MacGruber failed to to recoup its $10 million budget. Since then the film has gathered up a cult following and the prospects of a sequel have been brought up again and again. Will Forte has said that... Read More »

Presidential Debate, Monday, 9 p.m. Et / 6 p.m. Pt

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump will face off in the first of three presidential election debates, and if the entire campaign cycle has been any indication, the conversation will undoubtedly become heated in no time. But while the night is focused on the two candidates, all eyes will be on moderator Lester Holt, given two highly criticized presidential conversations earlier this month — Matt Lauer’s awkward Commander-in-Chief forum, and Jimmy Fallon’s hair-tousling Trump sit-down.

MacGruber 2 Script Work Begins, But Will It Actually Happen?

26 September 2016 1:21 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

MacGruber may wind up being only the second Saturday Night Live movie to get a sequel, which hasn't happened since Wayne's World 2. While the first MacGruber didn't do much at the box office, it looks like MacGruber 2 is in active development with the creative team and star Will Forte. Things appear to be very early on in the process, but we have a less than subtle clue that signifies the movie very well may be getting made sometime in the future.

Jorma Taccone of The Lonely Island fame, who directed the first MacGruber, recently took to his Twitter account to declare that he and Will Forte have at least started writing the script for MacGruber 2. One of the photos that he posted featured he and Forte standing together whilst eating a burrito with text saying "MacGruber 2 Boyz!!!" over their faces. The caption stated that "The writing hath begun!" The »

Meyers, who hosts NBC’s “Late Night,” is executive producing with Mike Shoemaker and Andrew Singer (“Portlandia,” “30 Rock”). Seth Meyers is stepping behind the camera.

The “Late Night With Seth Meyers” host is developing two scripted comedy series with the network he calls home, Variety has learned. Both projects hail from trusted writers with whom Meyers has worked with at NBC.

The first is a untitled single-camera comedy, which comes from writer Amber Ruffin, a writer/actress on “Late Night With Seth Meyers.” The project is about a has-been sibling singing group from the 1980’s that now make ends meet by doing what no musician wants to do — writing jingles and performing their old hits at parties. Ruffin will serve as co-executive producer, and Meyers will exec produce with Mike Shoemaker and Andrew Singer.

The second project, titled “AP Bio,” is a comedy about a former philosophy professor who takes a job teaching AP biology and uses his students to get back at the people in his life who have wronged him. “Saturday Night Live »

Newswire: Will Forte and Jorma Taccone are working on a MacGruber 2 script

26 September 2016 12:22 PM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

The 2010 MacGruber film, based on the recurring Saturday Night Live sketch that starred Will Forte, wasn’t exactly the smash hit that some people might’ve expected of a feature-length adaptation of a not-especially-timely MacGyver parody. But it has amassed a large and extremely dedicated following in the years since that keeps praying for a MacGruber sequel. After all, Anchorman and Zoolander got sequels long after people actually started asking for them, so there’s a precedent for people to hold out hope for more MacGruber. Now, there’s even more reason for people think that a MacGruber sequel might be coming, because Forte and the original film’s director/co-writer Jorma Taccone have just revealed that they’re seriously working on a script for MacGruber 2.

As reported by Collider, Taccone recently tweeted a pair of photos that indicate they have a “super duper rough” draft ready:

‘The Last Man on Earth’ Season Premiere Features Surprise Celebrity Cameo [Spoiler]

[Warning: This post contains a spoiler about the premiere of “The Last Man on Earth.”]

Fans of the “The Last Man on Earth” were treated to an ever-so-brief “Mad Men” reunion Sunday during the Fox comedy series’ season three premiere. During the episode, Melissa (January Jones) shoots an intruder named Darrell who’s wearing a hazmat mask and suit, and when one of his colleagues takes off the mask, we see that Darrell is played by none other than Jones’ former “Mad Men” co-star Jon Hamm.

“We weren’t going to shoot you,” Hamm’s Darrell said. “We come in peace.”

And with that, Darrell dies and the surprise cameo is over almost before it began, resulting in one of the most underused guest appearances since the show killed off Will Ferrell literally seconds after he turned up in the series a year ago.
