A crude but realistic painting of West Berlin where the stench of racism is (was) still offensive.
Black men are in fashion within the homo-sexual community but are not good for tenancy. Old diehard prejudices are still alive in post war Berlin. The Fassbinder generation wanted to shake them off. Berlin Harlem is there to point an accusing finger at them.
Oh I forgot, Ingrid is singing "The Berlin Blues". If only for that the movie is worth seeing.
