Storyline

In a little French town everything goes on as usual and people seem friendly and good natured until one day, two women arrive from Paris. A man dismounts from the same bus and that very night he seizes the two women and asks for the most beautiful girl in town as their ransom. After the initial shock, the mayor, his brother, the prefect, the police and the gendarmerie gather around the house where the two woman are imprisoned. It will be a test for everyone and each of them will show the real stuff he is made of, showing their hypocrisy, mean-ness or humanity concealed behind their provincial respectability. Excellent...

Such a shame that this little gem has not been more seen before. I won't repeat the plot line, which has already been done, just above this comment. The topic is very well explained. A very interesting analysis of the human soul, such was Christian Jacques's LE REPAS DES FAUVES, among many other items I have already seen in my movie buff life. LE REPAS DES FAUVES is the very first that I remind now. American film industry also described the disgusting behavior of people, even in the deep countryside. Selfishness, hypocrisy, cowardice, all elements that makes the audience dizzy. This film shows no exception to the rule.

Excellent actors such Bernard Blier, Charles Vanel, Georges Geret add more quality to this must see film. A real downbeat movie, as I so love.
