an excellent movie centrally characterized by Rajesh Khanna
6 August 2006 | by (India) – See all my reviews

It is one of the Hrishikesh Mukherjee classics of all time Hindi film world. The storyline of this film is of very high standard in comparison with usual Bombay films. It is a very sober social film with simple living and high thinking. There have been a lot of discussions, controversies, etc. about Rajesh-Amitabh comparison in terms of acting calibre. In my opinion in this film, Rajesh Khanna has very ably portrayed the middle class character of Somu, who is completely depended upon his rich friend financially and later changed as a serious factory mechanic and gradually turns as trade union leader, called Chander when mixed up with labourer society. Rajesh Khanna always proves himself as an unparallel actor when different shades of one particular character is characterized by him. And the Namakram is not an exception. On the other hand Amitabh usually repeats his angry young man image, little bit more loud. However, he has shown some standard expression in one or two scenes at Jail. In brief in this film we find Rajesh Khanna as usual as a complete character called Somu/Chander, but Amitabh as the well known Angry Young Man, just like Janjeer, Deewaar, etc.
