Linda Vargas picks up Ortiz in a bar where she works in a lesbian show with Maria Toledano. She seduces him, phones the police and kills herself. Ortiz is held on suspicion of her murder. Ortiz's wife, Rosa, visits a friend of Linda's, the Countess Anna de Monterey who tells her how Linda went into a spiral of sex and drugs after being assaulted by Ortiz as a young girl at a fair-ground. Linda became the Countess's lover, then had a disastrous love affair with Alberto, the Countess' boyfriend. Rosa also meets Maria, who holds Linda's diary, where she relates how a fake Doctor turned her away from drugs and into a nymphomaniac. Written by
Mediocre Franco film, should appeal mostly to Viagra addicts
Although I've sworn off Franco films for the most part, I saw this one recently when the opportunity came up. It starts out promisingly enough--a beautiful woman (Montserrat Prous) convinces a ugly, drunk guy to take her home where she frames him murder by committing suicide (after balling him into unconsciousness, of course). The man's surprisingly attractive wife then launches an investigation, meeting various people associated with the dead girl including a countess (Ann Leibert) and a photographic model (Kali Hansa), and reading passages from the dead girl's diary (thus the title). This all leads to two things--lesbian sex and flashbacks of lesbian sex.
Although Prous, Leibert, Hansa, and the actress who plays the wife are all beautiful, this movie suffers from a common problem with many Franco films after Soledad Miranda died and he parted ways with producer Harry Allen Towers and his relatively decent budgets--too much sex, or in this case too much lesbian sex. Unless you're "entertaining yourself" at home on a dateless Friday night and have just downed a bottle of Viagra so you can go at it for ninety minutes or five or six times consecutively, you're going to be pretty bored by this after awhile because it just goes from one long lesbian sex scene to the next with little else of interest in between (although I did kind of enjoy Prous dancing to groovy music in a fish-net dress). It's like a straight-out porn film (albeit a strange, non-hardcore one and with a lot better music). That's fine for some I guess, but if you've seen films like "Venus in Furs", "99 Women", or "Eugenie" you know Franco can do a lot better.
