The cast of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 16 just endured Snatch Game. Snatch Game has been a Drag Race staple since Season 2. It was a way to pay homage to the art of celebrity impersonation in drag. But Snatch Game is no longer the challenge it was meant to be. Between the contestants choosing difficult characters and coming in unprepared to volley in improvisation, it becomes difficult to watch. Snatch Game is a beast of a challenge on the reality series, but with more guidance for the contestants before the show, it can return to being a celebration of celebrity impersonation. Since the second season of the flagship franchise, Snatch Game has been the definitive Maxi Challenge on RuPaul's Drag Race. Inspired by the classic game show, Match Game, or Blankety Blank in the UK, the season's contestants are tasked to portray a celebrity as they are tested on their celebrity impersonation and their improvisational skills.

RuPaul’s Drag Race is more than just your typical reality TV competition series; it has evolved into a cultural phenomenon. The show has crowned numerous superstar drag queens who have stomped through the Werk Room, with over 100 queens competing for the highest honor in the world of drag.
Hosted by RuPaul Charles, it celebrates the artistic prowess of drag queens from diverse backgrounds and offers a glimpse into the lives of contestants who courageously share their tales of resilience in the face of discrimination and prejudice.
Since its debut in 2009, the show has consistently delivered iconic television moments, with episodes challenging contestants to showcase their ‘charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent.’ Even if one doesn’t snatch the crown as the season’s winner, there’s still the opportunity to secure a coveted place in the ‘Drag Race Hall of Fame’ through RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars.

Some of the longest-running game shows of all time have managed to stay entertaining due to their unique formats or charismatic hosts. Shows like Jeopardy! and Family Feud have successfully transitioned to new hosts without losing their popularity. The longest-running game show of all time had an impressive run spanning several decades on air.
The longest-running game shows of all time have one important thing in common. Not only do they offer contestants a chance to win great prizes, with the audience living vicariously through them, but they also remain entertaining for a variety of reasons. This comes from either the format of the shows or the hosts who run the show. Jeopardy! is a great example of a show that offers challenging questions that keep viewers glued to their TVs, but the charisma of former host Alex Trebek added to the appeal, which is why it has lasted for over 50 years.

Nicholas Meyer's 1982 film "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" is all about growing older. Admiral Kirk (William Shatner) is rounding middle age and has to start wearing glasses. He also has to face the fact that he fathered a child many years ago, while also facing a foe he abandoned on a distant planet and forgot about. Kirk's youthful days of recklessness are catching up to him.
Meanwhile, Spock (Leonard Nimoy) is on the cusp of retirement and has found a protégé he intends to train as his replacement. This is the young lieutenant Saavik (Kirstie Alley), a half-Vulcan, half-Romulan officer who is as baffled by humanity as Spock was in his early Enterprise days. Saavik is also confident and even a little arrogant, qualities she will start to outgrow by the film's conclusion.

Shecky Greene, the legendary standup comedian known for his long tenure as a Las Vegas headliner and for working with Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley, died Dec. 31 at his home in the city. He was 97.
Greene’s wife of 41 years, Marie Musso Greene, confirmed his death to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Greene was a regular on the TV talk show and guest star circuit in his 1960s and ’70s heyday, when he often sported a comb-over haircut and wide-lapel suits. Earlier in his career, he came to represent the epitome of the Rat Pack-adjacent comedian in a tux, delivering lightly risque or edgy anecdotal stories and zingers on stage.
Greene was known for his many appearances on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” and for working as the opening act for Sinatra in Miami and Presley in Las Vegas. During the 1962-63 season, he played a recurring character on the...

It seems as though the past few years have brought a resurgence of game shows, which were once a staple of both daytime and primetime television viewing. As a kid, I relished snow days and sick days when I could miss school and curl up on the sofa to watch all my favorites – “Pyramid,” “Family Feud” and “Password” were just a few. Every day after school I rushed through my homework so that I’d have time to watch “Tattletales” and “Tic Tac Dough.”
Game shows go all the way back to the days of radio, with one such program becoming the first game show to air on broadcast television – “Truth or Consequences” debuted on July 1, 1941, and before long the genre became a popular form of entertainment. All “Big Three” networks carried a variety of game shows on both daytime and primetime schedules until their popularity began to fizzle in the ’80s and ’90s.

Rachel Dratch used to be the ultimate "Oh, her!" comedian — the type of face and voice you'd always recognize, but whose name you might forget. Well, that didn't last long, because she was so memorable in tiny parts like "Southern Woman" ("Martin & Orloff") and "Female Mc" ("Winter Passing") at the outset of her career that she quickly grew into a beloved household name.
We know and love her now for her long tenure on "Saturday Night Live," where she helped create enduring characters like Debbie Downer, and in memorable roles in films like "Sisters," "Click," and "Just Go With It." Since she made her screen debut, Dratch has amassed an enormous 125 screen credits, and that's just counting individual projects, not episodes of TV, which would stretch into the multiple hundreds.
Those early years, where she was fighting for recognition with ounce inch of her comedic prowess, are well worth revisiting.

Conny Van Dyke, a singer-songwriter signed to Motown Records who starred in such films as “W.W. and the Dixie Dancekings” and “Framed,” has died. She was 78.
Van Dyke died on Nov. 11 at her home in Los Angeles due to complications of vascular dementia, her son Bronson Page told Variety.
The Detroit native was a longtime colon cancer and stroke survivor. She got her start in the entertainment industry when she was just 15 and a student in high school, making the film “Among the Thorns” with Tom Laughlin, Bill Wellman Jr. and Stephanie Powers. During that time, Van Dyke also worked as a songwriter for Wheelsville Records in Detroit.

The amount of versatility within a single premise is the test of a truly great game show. “Jeopardy” has the clues, “Match Game” has the risqué answers, and “Survivor” has the challenges. But maybe the most versatile game show on air right now — and going for the Emmy that “Jeopardy” has won the last three years running — is one where its entire DNA is based on being a radically different competition every episode.

A few years ago, after a few rough battles with the press and paparazzi and the cancellation of his MSNBC talk show, Alec Baldwin penned a much-publicized article announcing he’d be leaving “public life.” Baldwin seems to have reconsidered that departure and has been all over the media this last year, most recently appearing in the popular 2018 films “BlacKkKlansman,” “Mission Impossible: Fallout” and “A Star Is Born,” as well as the 2019 release “Motherless Brooklyn.” On the small screen, he appeared in the limited series “The Looming Tower,” recreated his recurring role on the reboot of “Will and Grace” and hosted “Match Game.”
Most notably Baldwin continued his appearances on “Saturday Night Live” lampooning Donald Trump. He made so many appearances in 2017 that he won an Emmy as Best Comedy Supporting Actor, his third career prize after his two leading wins for “30 Rock.”

Gallagher, the comic famous for smashing watermelons onstage and drenching up-close crowd members, died today of organ failure at his Palm Springs home, a family member told NBC News. He was 76.
Leo Anthony Gallagher Jr. had been in ill health and suffered multiple heart attacks, his son-in-law told the outlet.
Thriving during the late ’80s/early-’90s Golden Era of stand-up comedy, Gallagher was a prop comic whose signature bit was deploying the “Sledge-o-Matic” — a wooden hammer he used to pulverize watermelons and other items. Audience members in the front rows were given the option to wear see-through plastic wraps to avoid the gooey mess.
He appeared in dozens of TV specials from 1980-2000 — many for Showtime — and on talk/variety shows including many visits to the The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. He also appeared on David Letterman’s NBC and CBS shows, Howard Stern’s TV and radio...

The beloved “Aphrodite of the Accordion” and “The Love Goddess” Judy Tenuta died on Thursday in her home in Studio City, Calif. She died of ovarian cancer at age 72. Tenuta was a guest star in many television shows and movies and she hosted the popular HBO special, Women Of The Night, which featured contemporaries Ellen DeGeneres, Rita Rudner, Martin Short, and Paula Poundstone. Tenuta also appeared on Hollywood Squares, Celebrity Wife Swap, Who Wants to Date a Comedian?, and Match Game. She also appeared in a few “Weird Al” Yankovic videos. Tenuta was named after Judy Garland, and her mother, who was a fan of Lawrence Welk, urged her to learn to play the accordion. Her comedy career started out with Chicago’s The Second City, and she opened for comics such as George Carlin. She was the first “Best Female Comedian” winner at the American Comedy Awards. For her own stand-up routines,...

Judy Tenuta, an unconventional, often brash stand-up comic who guested on numerous TV shows and appeared in two “Weird” Al Yankovic videos, died October 6 of ovarian cancer in Studio City, CA. She was 72.
Known to fans as “The Love Goddess,” Tenuta’s stage act was delivered in a shrill, loud, sometimes gravelly voice and often included an accordion. Her style sometimes veered toward shock; one bit had an audience member near the stage open their mouth so she could drop her chewed gum in it.

If you’re a (ahem!) person of a certain age, then you’re certainly familiar with Richard Simmons, the incessantly cheerful, curly-haired pop culture personality who had people in the late 1980s Sweatin’ To The Oldies. But TMZ’s new documentary, What Really Happened to Richard Simmons, highlights a very different Simmons. The 45-minute exposé, which premiered on Fox on August 22, focuses on how Simmons chose to retreat from the public eye after being such a public figure for decades. With guest appearances on everything from Match Game to a recurring role on General Hospital, Simmons prided himself on helping people lose weight and enjoy fitness. One topic the documentary really delved into was his incredibly draining public life. During Covid pandemic, Simmons began uploading vintage fitness content to his social media channels, much to the delight of his fans. But he’s not been seen out in public or...

ABC has no current plans to bring its Match Game revival hosted by Alec Baldwin back for another season.
The game show, which last aired in summer 2021, was not renewed last May when ABC made the bulk of its pickups for the 2021-22 season. Match Game also was not renewed in late fall when the network typically makes its pickups for the following summer. It was around the same time that Baldwin was involved in the deadline shooting accident on the Rust set, which remains under investigation, with multiple lawsuits filed.
Hosted and executive produced by Baldwin, the new Match Game premiered in June 2016. The show is produced by Fremantle; it is unclear whether the company would pursue a new season elsewhere following its cancellation by ABC, firts reported by Variety. Baldwin, Scott St. John, Mallory Schwartz and Jennifer Mullin executive producer.

“Match Game,” which Alec Baldwin has hosted since 2016, won’t return to ABC’s lineup next season, and neither will “Card Sharks,” “Celebrity Dating Game” and “The Hustler,” a source close to the productions confirmed to TheWrap on Friday.
The decision on “Match Game” comes after Baldwin accidentally shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in October. Despite the civil lawsuits filed against the actor, the pending cancellation is likely unrelated, according to Variety, which first reported the story.
“Match Game” last taped in 2020 before the pandemic and only ran two new episodes in 2021. “Card Sharks,” hosted by Joel McHale; Sony Pictures TV’s “Celebrity Dating Game,” hosted by Zooey Deschanel and Michael Bolton; and All3Media’s Studio Lambert’s “The Hustler,” which was hosted by Craig Ferguson, have also not aired since 2021. “Match Game and “Card Sharks” are both Fremantle productions.

The Alec Baldwin-hosted “Match Game” isn’t expected to return to ABC, as the Alphabet web begins to firm up its plans for its annual game show-heavy summer lineup.
Also unlikely to return are “Card Sharks,” “Celebrity Dating Game” and “The Hustler,” while “Celebrity Family Feud,” “Press Your Luck” and “The 100,000 Pyramid” are expected to be back.
The fate of “Match Game” had been the source of speculation in the wake of Baldwin’s accidental shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the independent production “Rust” last fall.
But ABC’s decision to cancel “Match Game” is not related to that incident; “Match Game” hasn’t been in production since 2020, prior to the Covid-19 pandemic — and only aired two new episodes in 2021, which had been left over from the previous year.
The latest revival of “Match Game,” hosted by Baldwin, debuted in 2016, and ran for five seasons.

Betty White’s career ran through practically the entire history of television. And before White died on Dec. 31 at the age of 99, her longevity was a tribute not merely to persistence but to the willingness of a classic Hollywood talent to be versatile and to adapt.
In moving from television in the 1940s and ’50s to late-in-life media stardom on contemporary sitcoms and on “Saturday Night Live” (with some plum movie roles in between), White was perennially able to shift gears. She brought the best of an irreducible public persona — sparkling and witty, even or especially as dim or deluded characters — to a breadth of projects that offered her chances to show different sides of her talent. Her gifts recalled the best of an era of Hollywood in which charm reigned supreme; placing those gifts in a modern context provided a counterpoint that keeps fans fascinated by White practically to the century mark.

Jay Wolpert, a TV game show producer who helped popularize “The Price is Right” and had a late career resurgence as a credited writer on Disney’s mega-blockbuster “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,” has died. He was 79.
Wolpert died Monday morning in Los Angeles after suffering from Alzheimer’s, his longtime manager of 20 years told TheWrap.
Wolpert created CBS’ “Double Dare” in the ’70s, spending much of his early career at Goodson-Todman Productions. He also worked with Chuck Barris and Dan Enright and helped develop classic game show hits such as “Family Feud,” “Card Sharks” and “Match Game.” But he most importantly helped introduce some of the humor and narrative elements to “The Price Is Right’s” Showcase Showdowns, working on the show as a producer between 1972-1978 and for over 1,300 episodes.
He also found success writing for the big screen, moving into screenwriting and...

Jay Wolpert, who was the original producer of The Price Is Right in the 1970s, created other game shows and later scripted The Count of Monte Cristo and Disney’s first Pirates of the Caribbean film, died Monday of Alzheimer’s in Los Angeles. He was 78.
Wolpert’s reps at Code Entertainment confirmed his death today. Watch a WGA West video interview with him below.

In 1976, Wolpert created Double Dare, another Goodman-Todson game show originally hosted by future Jeopardy! answer man Alex Trebek. It aired for about five months. Wolpert went on to launch Jay Wolpert Productions, for which he created the daytime game shows Whew!
