In the show with the tornado coming towards the wagon train, it was quite obvious that someone superimposed a hand drawn, scribbled sketch of a tornado over the finished film. Possibly the worst replica of a tornado in television history. See more »
Dusty's Trail- not as bad as it's been made out to be
I've always liked Dusty's Trail. I actually saw it before I ever saw Gilligan's Island, so I had nothing to compare it to. My heart sinks every time I see Dusty's Trail dismissed out of hand because it was Gilligan all over again, only with waggons. Forrest Tucker is a wonderful comic actor. He worked well with Bob Denver, who manages to make Dusty very different to Gilligan despite both characters being drawn from the same template. The character of Lulu McQueen the showgirl is sassy and bold and very different to the Gilligan character of Ginger. Growing up, I loved Westerns anyway, so this was perfect comedy entertainment. I love the brash, two-dimensional nature of Dusty's Trail, the fact that you don't have to think very hard, or even at all! The music is absolutely perfect, the costumes are spot-on, the situations as absurd as they need to be. I wouldn't say that if you're a Gilligan fan you should automatically have to dislike Dusty's Trail. I'm a fan of both shows. It's a shame DT was cancelled after just one series, I think it had potential. But luckily most of the episodes have survived and are still circulating, and I'm still watching it today.
