A conscientious factory worker gets his finger cut off by a machine. Although the physical handicap is not serious, the accident causes him to become more involved in political and revolutionary groups.
Gian Maria Volonté,
Federico, (Ugo), hides from his past by creating a false world of wealth and destroys all that is traditional. All of this to despise and oppose his Left Wing dad. But the father and son unity is so strong that Federico crumbles and travels back to his roots in search of his truer self. A very poetic piece of political observation on how the modern person neglects what their forefathers fought for. Ugo in top form, playing both father and son!
