Truly Ground Breaking!, 31 May 2005

I saw Fat Albert at probably 6 years old when it was in reruns. I only saw two episodes but it did make an impression on me. Even at 6 I knew this was an unusual show. I'd never seen a cartoon with an all African American cast. And the episodes I saw were about serious subjects like drugs and deaths in the family (I recently found out these episodes were titled "Pot of Gold" and "Shuttered Window"). I commend the show for always being so ground breaking.

After seeing the movie and the cartoons on DVD, I decided Rudy was my favorite character. I liked that he was a little more complicated than the others (not that I take this show too seriously! Hehe). My 2nd favorite character would be Dumb Donald. He's funny and there's so much to him than just being "dumb." It's nice to see a kids' show that promotes good values while still being "cool." Somehow the show always makes me smile. :)

Btw, I'd definitely recommend the Fat Albert Easter Special, very inspiring!
