Conceptually, When the Gods Fall Asleep was an interesting idea; like a cross between Food Of The Gods and Planet of the Apes. Unfortunately, in the hands of incompetent Writer/Producer/Director and Editor Rubens Francisco Luchetti, he ruined whatever value this concept might have had. The film is worthless, stupid, and makes no sense! The acting is about on par with an adult movie and the male leads come off more than a bit fruity. The sporadic gore scenes consists mostly of headshots with digital effects and a couple of guys getting their guts ripped-out. Nothing we haven't seen done before (and better) a thousand times. The gorilla suits and makeup is poor; while some care was taken to paint the actor's faces good enough for a Halloween party, little to no makeup was applied to the exposed flesh on the apes' arms or chests. The script is nonsensical to the point of cringe-worthy every time more pointless narration comes on or anyone opens their mouth. The actors fumble their way through one banal line after another and perform worse than your average high school play. The editing is terrible; Prior often fails to show establishing shots before a battle so the audience has no way of knowing how many zombies there are, what they are doing are or what the area is like. This ruins any chance for suspense and needlessly confuses the viewer. I could go on and on, but it all boils down to this: there is absolutely nothing to recommend this movie, even to die-hard ape invasion fans! Watch out for the purple zombie!
