John Phillip Law replaced Brian Kelly in the central role of Robin Stone. Law was a last-minute substitute for Kelly, who less than two weeks prior to shooting was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident that almost killed him. Law, considerably taller than Kelly, was compelled to wear some of Kelly's original wardrobe, and the too-short clothes are apparent in the final film. Jacqueline Susann had earlier said of Kelly that he was "the perfect Robin Stone".
Jacqueline Susann, author of the novel on which this was based, "was quite unhappy" with the film, according to website "Cool Cinema Trash". "She disliked most of the casting choices, with the exception of Shecky Greene and Robert Ryan".
