What Can I Say? It Made Me Laugh

Miss Nymphet's Zap-In (1970)

** 1/2 (out of 4)

It's no secret that I'm really not a fan of the sex films of Herschell Gordon Lewis. Apparently he wasn't overly fond of them either but I've always preferred his "gore" movies. With that said, I found this take off on stuff like Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In to be rather childish but incredibly funny at times. Look, if you're wanting to witness the word of Kubrick then it's best to watch one of his films. Obviously this movie wasn't meant to win an Oscar but instead it was just some cheap fun with an excuse to show all sorts of nudity. There are countless skits done here and obviously they're all based around sex and nudity. Some examples include a dumb husband he keeps finding various men in bed with his wife but she always gives a good excuse for why they're there. Another deals with a white hunter in Africa who gets captured by some tribal black women. Obviously 1970 was a different time in regards to humor, which is why we get lines like the white hunter exploring the "black bush." Get it? If you do then there's a good chance that you're going to laugh at this skits. None of them are great by any stretch of the imagination but I thought all of them had a certain grade-school type of humor. You remember at lunch time in the fifth grade when you and your buddies would tell dumb sex jokes? That's pretty much what this film is. For 66-minutes we get a variety of skits and I must admit that the majority of them made me laugh. Thankfully the film didn't run too long as things do start to run out of gas towards the end but there's still no question that there's enough nudity and humor to keep fans of these type of softcore pictures happy.

Lamentable sex-themed sketch show from H.G. Lewis

Warning: Spoilers
MISS NYMPHET'S ZAP-IN is a sex comedy directed by the one and only H.G. Lewis, the noted exploitation director of gore movies such as BLOOD FEAST and TWO THOUSAND MANIACS. That he made this film under a pseudonym is telling; it turns out to be a lamentable sketch show linked by the theme of sex and nudity, and in particular it's packed with wall-to-wall topless women.

There's no plot here and little to link the vignettes, other than the theme of sex and sexuality. The viewer is treated to endless sketches and one-liners, many of which are cheesy in the extreme, and none of which are funny. The acting and production values are as non-existent as you'd expect although the picture quality is surprising good considering the available elements at the time. It's a shame that the resulting production is frankly embarrassing rather than watchable in any sense of the word.
