Storyline

After spending the last two years in Europe as an exchange student, Gidget returns home to California only to discover that things have changed. The letters she had been writing to her beloved "moondoggie" to try to make him jealous have had the wrong effect. Disillusioned with love, and after hearing a speech on television, she decides to make a real difference in the world by going to New York to become a youth worker at the United Nations. While there she has a proposal of marriage from an extremely wealthy Arabian Sheik, but instead she falls for a handsome but older Australian diplomat. This is the best Gidget movie!
10 July 2004 | by (Huxley, Iowa) – See all my reviews

I believe that Gidget Grows Up is the best Gidget movie in the series of Gidget movies. This is a very sweet, funny, and charming story. One of the main reasons that is it is so good in my opinion is the star that plays Gidget Lawrence,Karen Valentine.Karen Valentine is a superb actress, and I think that she was the best Gidget. This movie was made in 1969, and I saw it when it aired back then on television as a movie of the week, and I loved it.I was eleven years old, and I was glued to the set from the very first moment to the last moment of this terrific movie.Paul Lynde was so funny as Louis B. Latimer the landlord.Gidget's father was played by the consummate actor Robert Cummings.Edward Mulhare played Gidget's love interest in the show. Remember him in the made for television series called The Ghost And Mrs. Muir?Paul Peterson played Moondoggie, he was terrific also.I watched this movie recently, and it was just as pleasureable to watch in 2004 as it was in 1969.I highly recommend this wonderful movie that the whole family can watch!
