Dorian Gray Trailer & Images, In UK Cinemas On September 9th

3 August 2009 8:46 AM, PDT | The Cinema Post | See recent The Cinema Post news »

Based on the classic novel by Oscar Wilde, Dorian Gray tells the story of a strikingly beautiful young man named Dorian (Ben Barnes - The Chronicles Of Narnia).

He arrives in Victorian London and is swept into a social whirlwind by the charismatic Henry Wotton (Colin Firth - Mamma Mia!), who introduces Dorian to the hedonistic pleasures of the city. When a portrait of Dorian is unveiled, such is its beauty that he makes a pledge: he would give anything to stay as he is in the picture - even his soul.

Dorian Gray examines the destructive power of beauty, the blind pursuit of pleasure and the darkness that can result.

The film will be released in UK cinemas on Wednesday September 9th 2009. Check out a trailer and selection of hi-res images from the film below!

Dorian Gray Trailer Starring Ben Barnes

28 July 2009 6:16 AM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

The tale of Dorian Gray is one that has been told many times over the years and in many different variations. The character comes from a Victorian Era novel written by Oscar Wilde called The Picture of Dorian Gray, about a handsome young man who sells his soul so that he may never lose his good looks. He indulges in sex, drugs and murder but with each act, a painting of him changes to reflect a disfigurement of some sort, revealing his hidden secret. There is new take on the story directed by Oliver Parker (The Importance of Being Earnest, St. Trinian's, Othello), that stars Prince Caspian himself, Ben Barnes, along with Colin Firth and Rachel Hurd-Wood. An international trailer has arrived online and while the music is a bit over the top, the Victorian Era setting and lush cinematography by Roger Pratt (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, »

First Dorian Gray Trailer Online

27 July 2009 12:19 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Shock Till You Drop have procured the first look at the teaser trailer for Dorian Gray, starring Ben Barnes and Colin Firth.Based on Oscar Wilde's classic - and only - novel (full title The Picture of Dorian Gray), the film sees Ben Barnes as Dorian, the prettyboy who wishes that his portrait would age while he stays youthful. With disastrous consequences. Colin Firth plays Wilde-cipher Lord Henry Wotton, whose flip observation that the only things worth pursuing in life are youth and beauty starts the whole process. The book was first published serially in 1890, but has incredibly only rarely been officially filmed. There are a few silent versions between between 1910 and 1918, and a really great 1945 version starring George Sanders as Wotton. The glimpses we get of the horribly old Dorian in this trailer look very much like the terrifying painting from that film. The rest are mainly TV adaptations, »

23 June 2009 12:23 AM, PDT | FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news »

It’s a long, long time since I’ve written anything about the upcoming adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s classic story about the narcissistic Dorian Gray. So long in fact that I almost forgot there was a film in the making! Considering the fact that the film hits UK theatres on 18th September This Year, you would have thought that we would have seen some promotional material before now.

Still, marketing inadequacies aside, there is finally a New poster for Dorian Gray, starring Ben Barnes (Prince Caspian), Colin Firth, Rebecca Hall and Emilia Fox. The film is directed by Oliver Parker. Check out the poster below and let me know what you think, going to see it or will you be giving this a miss?

The Poster of Dorian Gray

19 June 2009 12:00 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

The poster has surfaced today for Oliver Parker's "more-horrific" adaptation of Oscar Wilde's The Portrait of Dorian Gray, now shortened to simply Dorian Gray, and if you stare at it long enough, it will age before your eyes!

Well, no, not really, but you can still stare at it! Parker, whom you may remember as playing Peloquin in Clive Barker's Night Breed, is said to be handling the classic story from more of a pure horror tale approach. Guess we'll have to wait and see what that means. In any event dig the art below courtesy of BadTaste, and look for more on this one soon!

Exclusive: Ben Barnes on Dorian Gray

11 May 2009 | shocktillyoudrop.com | See recent shocktillyoudrop news »

Earlier today, ComingSoon.net spoke with actor Ben Barnes, best known as the title character of Disney's The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian , about his role in the adaptation of Noel Coward's Easy Virtue , but the horror enthusiasts will probably want to know more about his starring role in the upcoming Dorian Gray , based on the story by Oscar Wilde. In the movie, Barnes plays a 50-year-old man living in the body of a 20-something-year-old, having maintained his youth with the help of a painting that has the magical properties to take on his natural aging process. Even though there have been many adaptations and versions of Wilde's tale, we asked Barnes if this new version was going to be a very different take on the story than we've seen in previous films and TV »

Horrorwood Babbles On: The Ackermansion, Gone? Puns Fail Me ...

4 May 2009 12:59 AM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

For the first time in over half a century there is no Ackermuseum of Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Horror. Forrest J Ackerman (1916-2008), genre-giant and the heart and soul of the largest collection of memorabilia ever assembled, has left the building. Now the building is leaving us. Without question, the end of an era. But not necessarily the end of Forry’s dream. Even as we face the depressing barren walls left by Uncle Forry’s absence, we’ll also consider how the recent auction of his memorabilia may offer a glimmer of hope for classic genre fandom and a new generation of Monster Kids.

Part 1: The Dark Before the Dawn

Forry’s collection began at his boyhood home on Sherborne Avenue, grew to mythical proportions at the 18-room Glendower Ave. Ackermansion and was ultimately downsized to fit in the 5-room “Horrorwood, Karloffornia” house pictured above. This was the final »

First cast and filmmaker comments: Dorian Gray

3 February 2009 9:48 AM, PST | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

It’s the classic Faustian tale of terror: handsome socialite lured by his debauched mentor into wicked hedonism stays eternally young while his portrait ages in the attic instead. Now Oscar Wilde’s only Gothic horror novel The Picture Of Dorian Gray is being brought to the screen once again.

Dorian Gray as at least the dozenth screen adaptation of Wilde’s book—the most famous to date being the Oscar-winning 1945 version. Filmed last summer and set for UK release in September (U.S. distribution has yet to be nailed down), the new big-budget Ealing Studios production toplines Prince Caspian heartthrob Ben Barnes as the enigmatic Dorian, along with Colin Firth (pictured at left with Barnes), Ben Chaplin, Rebecca Hall and An American Haunting’s Rachel Hurd-Wood.

Giving the 1890 masterpiece a modern edge is newcomer scriptwriter Toby Finlay. “It’s a timeless story with a great deal of contemporary currency »
