Supernatural thrives on death and tragedy, which makes next week's season 2 finale feel very ominous indeed...

2.21 Fire With Fire
Episodes like this week’s The Originals are hard to pull off without feeling a bit cheap. It’s all double-bluffs and long-cons, seemingly monumental series-altering events explained and excused away by the fact that a main character only maimed and killed his friends and family for the greater good.
With this show, though, it’s even harder. The episode asks us to believe at different stages that Klaus would go on a murderous rampage, setting love interests on fire and driving an irrevocable wedge between himself and the mother of his child, and believe that he’d go that far to convince Dahlia that he’s on her side. It’s a stretch, especially so because of how much pain we’ve seen Klaus inflict on...

Has Klaus crossed a line with The Originals' audience? His alliances and decisions are making him increasingly hard to root for...

2.20 City Beneath The Sea
We’re not supposed to agree with Klaus’ decisions, no one could, but there’s a line that The Originals ordinarily refuses to cross and, even when he’s being really, really stupid, his bad decisions don’t harm the guys we like (that goes for The Originals because, we can’t forget the Aunt Jenna and Tyler’s mother incidents on Tvd).
His decision in this episode to work with Dahlia may cause him to cross this line, and that’s worrying. The difference is that, even when his logic is flawed and skewed by past experiences and characteristic paranoia, we can usually rely on his intelligence to keep things aligned.
The audience will find it hard to believe...

The Originals, Season 2, Episode 20, “City Beneath the Sea”
Written by Carina Adly MacKenzie and Charlie Charbonneau
Directed by Leslie Libman
Airs Mondays at 8pm (Et) on The CW
On this week’s The Originals, Klaus takes a walk through Dahlia’s memories, Hayley chooses a family, Elijah and Rebekah attempt to keep Hope hidden, and Aiden is laid to rest.
Last week, Klaus was arguably the biggest weakness in an otherwise excellent episode, and not much has changed this week: he remains frustratingly temperamental and fickle in “City Beneath the Sea,” an episode that tries to garner sympathy for Dahlia and Klaus, two villains who believe themselves to be unjustly accused, and only serves as a reminder that they are, without a doubt, the villains of this story.
While Dahlia’s flashbacks/memories are interesting and do add another dimension to her character, they feel like too little, too late.

In this episode of The Originals, "City Beneath the Sea," Dahlia gives Klaus a glimpse into her and Freya's past and reveals some startling information about Hope. Elijah is determined to fight Dahlia without Klaus. And Vincent helps Rebekah and Davina with a spell.
If you thought that since Klaus was daggered it would provide his "friends" and family ample time to completely screw the pooch when it came to dealing with Dahlia, you were wrong. Dahlia wouldn't allow something like unconsciousness get in the way of her evil machinations. So while Klaus slumbers, Dahlia does a spell that transports his consciousness into hers in order to continue negotiations regarding Hope.
