David Canary, Longtime 'All My Children' Star, Dies at 77

24 November 2015 2:17 PM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

David Canary, a longtime member of the cast of ABC daytime soap “All My Children” who played twins Adam and Stuart Chandler, died of natural causes on Nov. 16 in Wilton, Conn. He was 77.

Canary appeared on “All My Children” from 1984-2011 and returned in 2013. He picked up five Daytime Emmys for his dual roles on the soap and was nominated many more times.

He was deliciously bad as Adam Chandler, the powerful head of the family that lived in fictional Pine Valley. He was always at loggerheads with the other baddie, Palmer Cortlandt. The sparks flew when he and Susan Lucci, who played reigning queen Erica Kane got together.

But Canary also played twin brother Stuart Chandler who was angelic and as good as Adam was bad and was the only one who could restrain Adam.

He also had a crossover appearance on ABC’s “One Life to Live.”

Kelly Ripa to Receive Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

9 October 2015 10:00 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Performers can ascend to stardom via any number of paths in Hollywood: they can rise to prominence by virtue of their talent, or through the old standby of being in “the right place at the right time.” There are also those figures whose route to the spotlight is marked by less than laudable behavior, but more often than not, it’s ability, magnetism and desire to succeed in one’s chosen field that reaps the rewards of fame and fortune.

For Kelly Ripa, all three of these factors have helped to elevate her on a number of platforms, as well as a means that does not always get the credit it deserves: She has strived to remain true to her core values of family, honesty and respect for her peers and others.

“(I) pride (myself) in being regular in an industry that can really challenge a family,” she says. “It might sound stupid, »

Kelly Ripa and Co-Stars Recall Her Time on ‘All My Children’

9 October 2015 10:00 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

It’s fitting that Kelly Ripa made her “All My Children” debut on Thanksgiving Day in 1990. After all, the fan-favorite actress has been nothing but effusively grateful for the opportunities she received from being cast as heroine Hayley Vaughan Santos on the now-defunct ABC soap opera.

Ripa arrived in Pine Valley, the soap’s fictional setting, wearing an Elvira-like black wig, playing the niece of Trevor Dillon (James Kiberd), whom she affectionately called “Uncle Porkchop.” The rambunctious teen had a smart mouth, but it was all a defense mechanism given her rough upbringing. Soon, “Children” viewers learned that Hayley was the result of a fling her alcoholic mother, Arlene, had with mainstay mogul Adam Chandler.

Sparks flew between Hayley and love interest Brian Bodine — and not just on-camera.

“The first year, we couldn’t really be in the same area together,” says Matt Borlenghi, Brian’s portrayer. “I was in my early 20s asking, »
