Storyline

During the latter days of WW2 an American Lieutenant (Berry), accidentally falls out of an airplane that he was on and falls into German territory. He is taken in by a Baroness (Gabor). She is taken with him and doesn't want him to leave, so she doesn't tell him that the war has ended. So, for nearly five years he thinks that the war is still going on, and so when he leaves her estate he thinks that he has to do what he can to defeat the Germans, cause he can't find anyone who speaks English or is willing to tell him that the war is over. Delightful movie, so delightful that it was a shame when it was over
31 August 2016 | by (Sydney, Australia) – See all my reviews

Wake Me When The War Is Over is a delightful little TV movie starring Eva Gabor as a baroness who hides an American soldier Lt Roger Carrington (Ken Berry) from the Nazis. Playing the head of the Nazi unit that searched for Carrington was played by Werner Klemperer. Klemperer of course at the time that this TV movie came on in 1969 was also concurrently playing another Nazi officer Colonel Klink in the Hogan's Heroes. However for Wake Me Up When The War Is Over, Klemperer was temporarily demoted as Major Erich Mueller. With no contact with the outside world, the baroness does not tell Carrington when the war is over fearing that she would lose him. What ensues is mayhem with Carrington still believing that the war is on and the struggle by one of the baroness' maids Eva (Danielle De Metz) to tell him that the war is over due to her only speaking German and Carrington only speaking English. What ensues is absolutely hilarity in the consequences of Carrington not knowing the war is over. It was so delightful that it was a shame to reach the end when the movie was over.
