Storyline

A pedestrian Pink Panther cannot complete his crossing of a busy city road before his "Walk" light changes to, "Don't walk." He must return to his original side of the intersection, and every subsequent attempt to walk across the road is equally unsuccessful. A little man at a pedestrians' club advises the panther to try crossing the road by other means: pole vaulting, attaching a rocket to his back, walking across an electric wire, being a "human" cannonball, and building a wooden suspension bridge. Each effort fails painfully for the hapless panther. He finally disguises himself as a mother tabby with a litter of kittens and is permitted to fully cross the road - but a falling piano lands on him. A Satire On Those Annoying Street Signs
10 June 2007 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

This whole cartoon resolves around the dilemma of how to cross a busy city street without getting run over. It's actually a comment on those "walk," "don't walk," signs at intersections. Those things were new, I believe, in the 1960s and were hard to get used to at the beginning, often leaving people in the middle of the street. That's the sarcasm here as it's exaggerated for this satiric cartoon.

The Panther finally comes up with various plans to "trick" the traffic before all the cars run over him (which they do a few times). He first thinks if he dresses up as an old lady, maybe the cars won't run him over.

In what starts off as a basic and ho-hum story turns clever and is fun to watch as the PP tries everything.....just to be able to cross the street! He even sees a sign on the National Pedestrian Club building which reads, "Having trouble crossing streets? Let us help you." The PP takes a class. I wouldn't recommend their plans, either A, B, C or D. Wow, I don't remember it being THAT difficult....but this is a very funny animated short.
