North Carolina Man Raises Thousands for Cancer Research with Over-the-Top Christmas Lights Display

23 December 2016 4:19 PM, PST | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

Before James Curiazza’s brother lost his battle with Leukemia in 1967, the family held one last Christmas for 4-year-old Dean.

“Dean loved the Christmas lights as well as the joy that the Christmas season brought with it,” Curiazza tells People. “We had a special Christmas just for him prior to his death. I don’t remember the exact date of our early Christmas, but my parents knew he wouldn’t make it through the holiday that year.”

In the decades following Dean’s Dec. 5 death, Curiazza has worked to keep his brother’s memory alive through the holiday celebrations he so loved. »

Megan Hilty Recorded a Song for Her 2-Year-Old Daughter: ‘Every Time She Hears It, She Stops Whatever She’s Doing’

So sweet! Megan Hilty recorded a special song on her new album A Merry Little Christmas just for her 2-year-old daughter Viola Philomena.

“My daughter’s obsessed with Christmas movies — very specifically the Rankin/Bass movies. You know, those stop-motions like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town, Frosty the Snowman,” the expectant Broadway star, 35, tells People.

“So we put a song on the record for her from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, and every time she hears it, she stops whatever she’s doing and runs over and just stares at the computer or the speakers or »

IndieWire’s Holiday Playlist — Get in the Spirit with ‘White Christmas,’ ‘Holiday Road’ and More

29 November 2016 1:07 PM, PST | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

With December just two days away, Christmas music will soon be even more ubiquitous than it has been for the last month. Here to assist in that effort is the IndieWire Holiday Playlist, a selection of 16 popularized by seasonally appropriate films and TV shows. Listen below.

Selections range from standards whose origins are self-evident (“White Christmas” was made famous by the film of the same name, while “Frosty the Snowman” and “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” are from the respective television specials) to a few you may recognize without instantly recalling where they’re from: Remember “Christmas Treat,” from the “I Wish It Was Christmas Today” skit on “Saturday Night Live”? Or Phoenix’s cover of “Alone on Christmas Day” that was in “A Very Murray Christmas”?

Leading out of that, How Murray Saved Christmas retained 3.3 mil and a 0.8.

A Playlist For People Who Hate Christmas Music

11 November 2016 4:30 PM, PST | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

I'm a music nerd: I used to be a music writer, I've been to more concerts than I can count, and I will unironically declare that I love rock 'n' roll. And I just can't deal with cheesy Christmas music. I want to listen to Christmas music that sounds like the music I actually like. I don't seek out pop music or adult contemporary the rest of the year, so why would I want it during Christmas? That said, I love listening to Christmas music during the holidays, as long as it's my kind of Christmas music. I love having albums that come out just once a year but when they do, it sounds like Christmastime. I've spent years cultivating a collection of songs that aren't "good for Christmas music," but just plain good. I have a few albums I always fall back on: A Christmas Gift For You From »

Jack Frost (1997) Blu-ray / DVD Release Details & Cover Art

7 November 2016 11:36 AM, PST | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

If Frosty the Snowman is a little too holly and jolly for your tastes, then you might want to consider adding Vinegar Syndrome's Blu-ray / DVD release of Jack Frost (1997) to your stocking this holiday season.

From Amazon: "On his way to be executed, the vehicle containing notorious serial killer Jack Frost collides with a hazardous chemical truck, turning Jack into a snow covered mutant and unleashing him on the unsuspecting town of Snomonton, 'The Snowman Capitol of the Midwest'. Jack immediately takes advantage of his newfound freedom and blizzardy abilities to seek revenge on the bungling Sheriff, played by Christopher Allport (To Live And Die In L.A.), that accidentally ended his cross-country killing spree. On his way to the Sheriff, Jack terrorizes the snow-man themed town and murders its residents in a variety of winterized ways. Can the residents of Snomonton fight back against the psychopath snowman from Hell »

Movie Review: Microwave Massacre (1983)

Microwave Massacre (1983)

Written by: Thomas Singer and Craig Muckler

Directed by: Wayne Berwick

Cast: Jackie Vernon (Donald), Claire Ginsberg (May), Loren Schein (Roosevelt), Al Troupe (Philip), Lou Anne Webber (Dee Dee Dee), Ed Thomas (Dr. Von Der Fool)

There were two significant inventions that shaped suburbia, and the lives of regular people in general in the 1980’s Those boons to domestic life would be the video cassette recorder and the microwave oven. More often than not, they were used in conjunction with one another to create a defining social moment for me. I ate microwave popcorn for the very first time while I watched “Footloose” on our brand new Vcr. Over the next couple of years, the movies varied from comedy to horror, and Hollywood big budget all the way down to video nasties. The microwave food varied from popcorn to nachos, brownies, and TV dinners. »

Pokemon Sun/Moon Unveils Stallone Crab, Sand Castles, and a Teddy Bear

19 August 2016 12:25 PM, PDT | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

The Pokemon Company has definitely been thinking outside of the box when it comes to the Pokemon in their upcoming Sun and Moon games.  Check out a few more Pokemon being added to the Alola region!

The new reveal trailer for Pokemon Sun and Moon starts off strong in revealing the latest Pokemon, indigenous to the Alola region, as Crabrawler.  A boxing crab that looks strangely familiar to Sylvester Stallone's Rocky.  It's a fighting type that uses Hyper Cutter and Iron Fist.

Following Crabrawler is when things get weird with this new class of Hawaiian Pokemon.  They introduce a new Ground/Ghost Pokemon, Sandygast, which is literally a mound of sand with a shovel stuck in its head.  Either it's a Frosty the Snowman type of deal or something else but my mind literally cannot fathom its existence.  It's special ability, Water Compaction, allows it to solidify into an actual sand castle Palossand. »

'Worst Movie Ever?'   No way. But neither is Wayne Berwick and comic Jackie Vernon's tacky cannibalism tale a piece of art. When I say it's interesting, it's more as a study item than entertainment. For the better part of the past decade, a new Masters of the Universe movie has been trying to get off the ground, with several studios taking a crack at this beloved franchise. Sony has been developing the franchise since 2009, picking up the rights from Warner Bros. We reported back in January that McG entered talks to direct, although we haven't had any updates since then. For those who have been waiting for He-Man and the rest of these iconic characters to hit the big screen, DreamWorks TV has some comic relief for you today, with the animated spoof reality series The Real Masters of Eternia.

This hilarious eight-minute spoof takes footage from the 1980s animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, and with the help of some crafty editing and new voice actors, turns these characters battling for Eternia into roommates, who have all moved into Castle Greyskull. »
