- Gunfighting and physical fighting occur in several scenes. There are occasional threats of violence. Occasionally, blood is shown: from gunshot wounds; trickling from a wagon; and in a pool in the sand at one point. There is one scene in which a young black trapeze artist is murdered. Following this scene, there are repeated (perhaps a half dozen) film displays of the dead boys face, which is shown staring with vacant open eyes.

- S.O.B. (expanded) is used near the beginning. At one point, much later, McAdams speaks of S.O.B.s (expanded). There is one instance of a racial epithet: black trapeze artists are called damned monkeys,

- There are depictions of men drinking in a bar at the beginning of the movie and again at the end of the movie. Cat Stevens is shown smoking cigars on a couple of occasions. Mami is shown drinking from a bottle under the circus big tent.

- There's a sudden depiction of a scorpion scuttling across the desert floor and across a pool of blood. There is a series of depictions of a dead boys blankly staring eyes. Some of the sudden, up-close depictions of faces, guns, etc may feel intense.
