Sex & Nudity

Non.

Violence & Gore

Gunfighting and physical fighting occur in several scenes. There are occasional threats of violence. Occasionally, blood is shown: from gunshot wounds; trickling from a wagon; and in a pool in the sand at one point. There is one scene in which a young black trapeze artist is murdered. Following this scene, there are repeated (perhaps a half dozen) film displays of the dead boys face, which is shown staring with vacant open eyes.

Profanity

S.O.B. (expanded) is used near the beginning. At one point, much later, McAdams speaks of S.O.B.s (expanded). There is one instance of a racial epithet: black trapeze artists are called damned monkeys,

There are depictions of men drinking in a bar at the beginning of the movie and again at the end of the movie. Cat Stevens is shown smoking cigars on a couple of occasions. Mami is shown drinking from a bottle under the circus big tent.

There's a sudden depiction of a scorpion scuttling across the desert floor and across a pool of blood. There is a series of depictions of a dead boys blankly staring eyes. Some of the sudden, up-close depictions of faces, guns, etc may feel intense.
