Many characters are seen drinking alcohol and smoking cigars. Henry Fonda's character is seen frequently chewing tobacco.

The scene where Harmonica as a kid is shown with hands tied and a harmonica in his mouth while his brother hangs can be quite disturbing to some viewers.
