Trivia

Though this movie has often been called a "spaghetti western", it actually isn't. That term is applied to westerns that were filmed by European companies (usually Italian), with a European (usually Italian) cast and crew and shot in Spain, because its terrain closely resembles the northeast Mexico/southwest US area. Although this film was shot in Spain, it was filmed by an American studio (20th Century-Fox) with an American director, producer, writers and mostly American crew. Star Burt Reynolds' previous film, Navajo Joe (1966), would be properly regarded as a "spaghetti western", but not this one. See more »

Goofs

In the confusion after the rebels storm the compound and save them from execution, Sarita waves her rifle toward the main gate and shouts at Lydecker and Yaqui Joe, "vamoose!". There is no word vamoose in Spanish. The word is "vamonos" meaning "let's go". See more »

Quotes

Yaqui Joe Herrera: I know all about them small town barber shop cutting sheriffs. I know all about them big town, big belly, billy club swinging policemen from St. Louis.
Lyedecker: YOU DON'T KNOW NOTHIN'!
Yaqui Joe Herrera: THE HELL I DON'T! They look you up and down and you're guilty! You don't get no trial, just like we ain't gonna get one now.

Very Enjoyable US Spaghetti
19 October 2002 | by (Copenhagen, Denmark, EU) – See all my reviews

I just rewatched "100 Rifles" and it is still a joy to watch, good actors and effective action makes this very spaghetti-like US western simmer, as well as a very sexy Raquel Welsh. Made 2 years before Leone made his "Duck You Sucker" and has a surprisingly lot of elements in common with it. A healthy dose of humor is also infused into this film. 7/10
