Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that, instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, you use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

Suggested MPAA rating: PG-13 for zombie violence and horror.

5/10.

A naked zombie walks near a house. Her buttocks and breasts are visible for about five seconds. The same zombie is shown again topless, for about the same amount of time, though slightly obscured. However, there is no sexual content or innuendo in this film.

Violence & Gore

7/10.

While the film was considered extremely gory and violent in the sixties, it is in no way or form near as gory as some more recent zombie movies have been. This is the tamest movie in the four (or six) part Romero franchise in terms of violence.

However, we do see a zombie eat a man and woman, which is shown very close up, and we see many zombies killed with either a rifle or fire. The zombies can only be killed by infamously being shot in the head.

A severed head is shown on a stair way early in the film. Fairly graphic.

A man has his skull crushed, no blood shown.

A little zombie girl kills a woman with a scalpel.

A little zombie girl is shown eating a man.

Profanity

2/10.

Mild language; once in a while you'll hear "damn", Ben uses on religious profanity in the beginning and one use of "bastard".

3/10.

Some smoking.

9/10.

There are only one or two jump moments, but the film's setting and character interactions will frighten many.

This is considered one of the scariest films of all time.

Sustained tension and pervasive scenes of "the living-dead" creating mayhem.

The scenes within the last 10 minutes are very intense.
