A 60's version of an XVIIIth century French novel and a XIXth century Italian opera, but the music of the movie is by Serge Gainsbourg, just as good a reference as Puccini...

A perfect Catherine Deneuve and an almost perfect Samy Frey for a what turns up to be the second good screen adaptation of a modernized old theme.

Money, love at first sight, love of money and money for love, love with jealousy and the jealousy of love. Des Grieux is running after Manon from Tokyo to Antibes. She is running after herself, doesn't know how to choose between a handsome, young but poor and jealous lover and the old but rich man she does not love but who is generous...
