Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that, instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, you use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

NOTICE TO READERS: The content advisory which follows contains NO SPOILERS. The information has been generalized to suit both those who may have seen the film and those who have not.

Original MPAA rating: X -- Persons under 16 not admitted [received and released 1968]

Current rating: R -- Persons under 17 require accompanying parent or adult guardian [obtained 1972]

Current rating maintains its validity as of 2011. Suggested updated rating descriptor: "for Some language including crude dialogue, Brief strong sexual content and nudity, Drinking and smoking and Thematic elements."

*****************************************************************************************************

This film contains some strong sexual content and themes.

Throughout the first half of the film, a young woman is frequently seen in a sheer negligee through which her bare breasts are sometimes visible. In one particularly suggestive sequence involving the girl wearing only the nightie, she teases an older woman by eating food on the floor in an erotic manner; this upsets the older woman.

There is also a scene early on in the film depicting a middle-aged woman, who is drunk, climbing into a taxi in which two nuns are riding. Although we do not see the incident that follows, and it is largely unclear what ultimately takes place within the taxi, it may be gathered from the audible dialogue heard outside the vehicle that the woman is making an aggressive attempt to come on to the nuns; she is subsequently rejected from the taxi in the middle of the street.

Near the middle of the film, a middle-aged woman and a younger female begin making out in bed; this sequence is intentionally brief and quickly dissolves to another scene.

Towards the end of the film, a woman fondles the chest of a younger female in bed before the two suddenly begin engaging in passionate foreplay; there is nudity, which while though not graphic, is extensive. The older woman then initiates implicit digital penetration amid the loud groans and thrusting of the younger woman.

Violence & Gore

This film contains no violence, although there is a later scene which involves incidental violent behavior wherein a woman trashes a television studio set in a fit of despair.

Profanity

This film contains moderate crude language.

There are a few uses each of "damn" and "hell"; 2 uses each of "bastard" and "bitch"; one instance of "bullshit" and some crude slang, namely "slut" and "dyke"; "fuck off" is mouthed behind a car horn once for comic effect. Besides the expletives there is also a fair amount of suggestive dialogue dealing with thematic material such as sex and lesbianism.

Throughout the film multiple characters, both minor and major, smoke cigarettes and drink in their homes, at public and private venues, in restaurants and at places of work.

This film contains no scenes that are frightening or intense in the effect of terror or horror. However, many scenes are patently adult in sexual nature and thus may be categorized in a similar sense as too "intense" for children. This film is wholly adult in both its themes and depictions and is recommended for MATURE audiences; it is completely inappropriate for children and younger teenagers not yet in high school.

Suggested amended MPAA rating restated: R for Some language including crude dialogue, Brief strong sexual content and nudity, Drinking and smoking and Thematic elements.
