Anthony Steffen and Eduardo Fajardo tangle
3 February 2016 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

"Gentleman Killer" (1967) is a solid spaghetti western, neither trash nor exceptional. Anthony Steffen vows to wipe out the gang of the sadistic Eduardo Fajardo. Fajardo has killed Steffen's brother. Steffen does a pretty good job of it too before Fajardo gains the upper hand over him, and for quite an extended time. There's gold in the mix and law in the form of cavalry, but they're not a constant presence at all. The scenario stays reasonably fresh by having some non-clichéd surprises here and there, but the story is not unfamiliar, being a variation on "A Fistful of Dollars". Fajardo plays the gang leader to the hilt. Steffen is much more laid back and has to project intensity in other ways. He's quite good at that. The music is not standard spaghetti western. Do not expect a trumpet playing a pretty tune. This music underscores action and emotion with dissonance and unusual sounds. The movie won't disappoint if you're looking for a lesser known but decent spaghetti western, which I was.
