Trivia

Artwork on the poster shows a bare-chested Rod Taylor - muscular and sweaty - being attacked by a man with a chainsaw. In the movie scene, however, Taylor wears a shirt. See more »

Goofs

Curry wears a French Foreign Legion paratrooper insignia on his beret, but requires constant translation when anyone speaks French. Either the badge is fake and undeserved, or he is the worst legionnaire there ever was! See more »

Quotes

Curry: The gun's Chinese Ruffo, paid for by Russian rubles. The steel probably came from a West German factory built by French francs. Then it was flown out here on a South African airline probably subsidized by The United States. I don't think he got very far.

A good movie with a fine cast
15 July 2001 | by (Nykoebing Falster, Denmark) – See all my reviews

Though I am not usually a fan of war movies, nor of violent movies, I am a fan of Rod Taylor and have been, ever since I saw him first at a tender age, that was in "The time Machine". When I first saw Dark of the Sun, I thought it very violent, but Rod Taylors performance as the mercenary captain Curry stood out. His character had a sort of integrity not often seen in such movies, and he was playing a much more mature part than in roles he usually had. This movie is undoubtedly his best, perhaps apart from "Young Cassidy". His captain Curry is a man, on whose sore toes you don´t want to step, a man who perhaps is selling his gun but not his conscience.
