Historical and curious film
27 January 2013 | by (Spain) – See all my reviews

"Mendoza" (Pepe Rubio), a Spanish naval officer, sadly contemplates the cruise "Cervera" scrapped after providing glorious services for so many years. Nostalgically recalls the history of the boat, so close to her own story. There he met "Mary" (Patty Shepard), his girlfriend, and when they both believed the happiest in the world, the outbreak of the Civil War abruptly separated. "Mary" took refuge with his family at the besieged headquarters of Simancas, that the cruise "Cervera" was ordered to bomb the enemy when he took by assault. Mendoza nothing heard from his girlfriend while the war continued. "Antonio" older brother was stationed in the famous "bous" how relevant missions conducted in the open sea, and the smallest, "Manuel", serving as an officer in the cruiser "Baleares". Through the story of each one know the main actions of the battle for dominance of the sea.

It is a film shot in almost documentary tone, with a strong ideological charge for the time it was shot. The film includes footage filmed material in the civil war, which seems to be correctly fitted between shooting scenes. In short this film is quite a historical curiosity that surprised by the novelty of having the Spanish Civil War from the sea.
