"A-ha! There's the blighter!"

Cool Cat, folks. Things had fallen so far for Warner Bros. animation in the 1960s that they were reduced to ripping off the cartoon cats that were popular on television at the time, such as Snagglepuss and Top Cat (with some Pink Panther thrown in). It's a very '60s cartoon with a character that speaks hip lingo and music that's "groovy." This short has Cool Cat tussling with his arch-nemesis, a British big game hunter named Colonel Rimfire. Basically this is a tired attempt to do the Bugs & Elmer routine, if Bugs & Elmer were lame and not funny. Larry Storch (of F-Troop fame) handles the voice work for both Cool Cat and Rimfire. He does an adequate job but nothing to get excited about. The music, as I said before, is going for a groovy '60s vibe. That's every bit as cheap and annoying as you might expect. Speaking of cheap, the animation is on par with most of the stuff being produced on TV then. Not impressive in the least. This really isn't much fun unless you like pretty much every cartoon you've ever seen.
