Spider-Man: Homecoming sequels will be like Harry Potter and follow Peter Parker through high school

28 July 2016 2:00 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It was revealed over San Diego Comic Con that classic villain The Vulture (who may be played by Michael Keaton) would be the antagonist for Spider-Man: Homecoming – but it looks like this won’t be a ‘one-and-done’ affair. To the surprise of no one, talk of possible sequels for this third Spider-Man reboot are taking place and Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige has said the films could follow a similar pattern to Warner Bros.Harry Potter.

“Should we be able to make more after that? Sure,” he told Collider. “This is sophomore year, is the next one junior year? Is the next one senior year? Is there a summer break between each of those? I don’t know what, but it was sort of how do we do a journey for Peter not dissimilar for what the students of Hogwarts would go through each of their years, which was one »

On this day in pop culture history: ‘Die Hard’ opened in theaters

July 15, 1988 must have been the day to celebrate Christmas in July because it’s the day classic Christmas movie (don’t argue) Die Hard was gifted to us. 28 years after the Die Hard hit theaters, it’s difficult to accept that the movie’s great villain is gone, and it’s wild to think about the fact that this was his first Hollywood film role — Alan Rickman was in his first movie at age 42, which makes it all the more tragic that his life and career were cut short this year. Since 1988, Bruce Willis has made four more Die Hard movies. Meanwhile, director John McTiernan’s last completed film was 2003’s Basic, and these days he’s keeping busy bashing modern blockbusters, Captain America and Mad Max: Fury Road included.  Die Hard is available for purchase here on Fox Connect Other notable July 15 happenings in pop culture history: • 1963: The »

Sony’s Tom Rothman talks Spider-Man: Homecoming, new set photos revealed

12 July 2016 4:40 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

As production continues on Spider-Man: Homecoming, IGN caught up with Sony chief Tom Rothman during the premiere of Ghostbusters, and managed to get a few words about the upcoming superhero reboot.

“We’re really, really fortunate on this because Marvel and Kevin Feige have really embraced the character, and nobody knows it as well as Marvel,” said Rothman. “It is another crown jewel of Sony’s for sure. [The title] is relevant to the story because it takes place in high school and there is a scene — that I guess I can give a little thing — at a homecoming dance. I’ve actually seen the dailies of it because we already did the high school shooting of it in the first couple weeks. It’s fantastic! But it’s also a homecoming to Marvel. And a homecoming to the cinematic universe that Spider-Man belongs in. So it’s a pretty unprecedented deal between two studios, »

Rob Lowe Boards Code Black As A Series Regular

6 July 2016 8:36 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

CBS medical drama Code Black has plucked Rob Lowe as a new series regular, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The veteran actor, who recently starred in the doomed Fox comedy The Grinder before it was canned after only one season, has joined Code Black as Col. Ethan Willis, a “doctor in the U.S. Military’s prestigious Combat Casualty Care research program who has been pulled out of a combat hospital in Afghanistan and embedded at Angels Memorial to teach what the military has learned about combat medicine.”

Not one to play by the rules, Lowe’s newcomer draws the ire of Angels Memorial’s finest doctors barring Dr. Leanne Rorish (Marcia Gay Harden), who welcomes his brash, aggressive modus operandi with open arms.

Indeed, the addition of Lowe is a sign of CBS’ minor overhaul to the Code Black series, and over the past few days the network has recruited Heroes alum Noah Gray-Cabey, »

Sony to build “a whole Spider-Man universe” with Marvel

24 June 2016 3:06 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Prior to the release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Sony announced that it was developing a further two sequels to the Marc Webb reboot, along with spinoff movies for The Sinister Six and Venom.

Of course, the negative reaction to the 2014 sequel put paid to those plans, leading Sony to form a partnership with Marvel Studios to relaunch the wall-crawler as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Captain America: Civil War.

With filming on next year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming now underway, The Hollywood Reporter spoke to Sony Pictures Entertainment chairman Tom Rothman, asking him whether the studio still intends on launching a “whole Spider-Man universe” and has any plans to work with Marvel beyond the main Spider-Man series.

“Yes to both those questions,” said Rothman. “It’s been fantastic, our relationship with Marvel. Sony has the ultimate authority. But we have deferred the creative lead to Marvel, because they know what they’re doing. »
