Adam Brody, Elizabeth McGovern, Cicely Tyson Join ‘Showing Roots’

Exclusive: Indie drama Showing Roots is bringing one star of Alex Haley’s Roots full circle – just as the Emmy-winning landmark miniseries eyes a fast-tracked TV remake on the History Channel.

Set in a small Southern town circa 1977, the film stars Taken’s Maggie Grace as Violet and Orange Is The New Black’s Uzo Aduba as Pearl, two women who work in a local beauty parlor. They see the town’s balance turned upside down when the slavery miniseries Roots hits the airwaves and are inspired to integrate their community, only to see pent-up racial tensions erupt in the process.

Adam Brody will play Bud, an engineer who comes to town to fix a local bridge. Downton Abbey’s Elizabeth McGovern has been cast as Shirley, the beauty shop’s owner. Filming is underway in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Another familiar face joins Gotham – Robin’s dad John Grayson will be played by Rob Gorrie…

Gotham had a week off this Monday, but will be back next week with What The Little Bird Told Him. Later episodes of the season are still being filmed, with a neat little casting revelation coming from episode 16 – John Grayson will be appearing. He's the father of Robin himself, Dick Grayson, in the comics.

He will be played by Rob Gorrie, seen before in One Life To Live and As The World Turns. His debut episode will be called The Blind Fortune Teller.

As you probably already know, John Grayson is a member of The Flying Graysons, a troupe of acrobats who travel the globe, usually as part of a circus.

Anyone who’s seen Batman Forever, or read a few comics, will know the fate of the troupe, but we wouldn’t expect »

We've known Dick Grayson's parents would be showing up in Gotham for quite a while now, and it looks like we have our first bit of casting news for the doomed duo. Rob Gorrie (One Life to Live, As the World Turns) is set to guest star in the upcoming sixteenth episode of the Fox drama series, "The Blind Fortune Teller", and ComicBook.com have confirmed that he will actually be playing John Grayson; father of the future Boy Wonder. Daytime’s little girl has grown up, and now she’s moving on.

Kristen Alderson, whose 17-year run on ABC soaps began when she was 6 years old, is leaving General Hospital, TVLine has confirmed.

The Emmy winner will tape her final scenes soon, according to Soap Opera Digest, which first reported the departure.

Alderson started her career in 1998 as Starr Manning on One Life to Live, a part she played until the soap’s cancellation in 2012. She reprised the character on General Hospital later that year.

Recently, TV Line chatted up "Castle" showrunner, David Amann, and he was able to shed a few, new, very interesting spoilers that we can expect to see from Castle and the crew when the 2nd half of the season starts back up. Uzo Aduba, Maggie Grace Set For Southern Drama ‘Showing Roots’

Exclusive: Orange Is The New Black’s Uzo Aduba and Taken 3 star Maggie Grace will lead the cast of feature drama Showing Roots, about a small Southern town in 1977 whose balance is turned upside down when the slavery miniseries Roots hits the airwaves. Aduba and Grace will play two denizens of a local beauty parlor who are inspired by the Alex Haley adaptation to integrate their community, only to see pent-up racial tensions erupt in the process.

Filming is set to begin this month in Baton Rouge, Louisiana under veteran stage helmer Michael Wilson (The Trip to Bountiful), directing from a script penned by One Life to Live actress Susan Batten. Series like All My Children and One Life to Live were cancelled a few years ago to pave the way for talk shows that are less expensive for the ABC network.
