The Melkersson family decides to leave the city for the summer to rent a house in the Stockholm archipelago. They come to enjoy the simple life there and all adventures that come their way together with resident family, the Grankvists.

Torsten Lilliecrona, who in previous Saltkråkan-movies and the TV-series, had portrayed the popular character Melker Melkerson, does not return for this movie. Torsten asked for a bigger salary in order to reprise the role. This was intentional, as Torsten had grown tired of being associated with the character.
