Rodent to Stardom didn't have a bad idea to start with(though it is like a re-hash of A Star is Bored), but as a cartoon it does miss the mark. It is marginally better than Speedy Ghost to Town, a Haunting We Will Go and especially See Ya Later Gladiator as far as the Daffy/Speedy outings go but that's only just. The plus points come from Mel Blanc's vocal characterisations- he has been better but he as always gives his all-, Bill Lava's lively music and Daffy being on great form, maybe a little too bitter and greedy at times but what is so appealing about Daffy in the first place is more than evident here. The animation however is really not good, the beginning is just about tolerable for some nice colours but very quickly it descends into sparse, ugly background art(sometimes no background at all), flat colours and poorly drawn characters especially the director, Speedy is also animated too chubbily. While Daffy is great, Speedy is written to the point that he is not needed and he is barely in it, and he does appear he's not funny, it's a waste really(it also wouldn't have made much sense to have Speedy standing in for Daffy). His trademark speed is also rarely used if at all. The supporting characters are rather forgettable. The story is predictable, playing like a re-hash and a very tired one at that, with a dull stretch in the middle. Rodent to Stardom also wasn't very entertaining from personal opinion, the dialogue lacks razor-sharp timing and wit with the exceptions of Daffy and Speedy's final lines and the gags are just as uninspired. All in all, Daffy and Speedy have done worse but Rodent to Stardom was fairly mediocre stuff. 4/10 Bethany Cox
