What a wonderful surprise for me.

I did not know this feature. It's a real gem from the mighty sixties. We of course think of ASPHALT JUNGLE and RIFIFI in the heist sequence. Yes, it is a heist movie. The story of a safe cracker - Robert Webber - who is recruited to pull a job with some accomplices. And among them we find Jean Servais !! Who could have expected the reunion of Servais and Webber in a movie? It's fantastic. The two heavies of french and US thrillers together in an European film. And what a film. It takes place in Marseilles and could have been made by Jean Pierre Melville. This topic, where we find friendship among men, reminds me Michael Mann's HEAT, with Webber as De Niro character. Pierre Zimmer, who played in Melville's LE DEUXIEME Soufflé is here a cop, former Webber's brother of arms during WW2. And the very downbeat ending is also inspired from Melville's LE SAMOURAI or UN FLIC.

I find this kind of films far better than copycats of Tarantino's movies. Sex, drugs and rock and roll. This crap. Guy Ritchie's crap.
