No paradise here.
OllieSuave-0078 July 2016
The Pink Panther thinks he has found paradise on a tropical island, but the little pointy-nosed man and his dog are there hunting for food. So, fearing for his life, the panther plays pranks on the man, in which the poor dog is blamed for.

The dog acts rather innocent and adorable in the short, but at times, in not the brightest of moments. Marginal laughs from this one, as much of the gags are concentrated on the man and dog rather than the panther. He takes the third wheel in this one.

There are much repetitive gags - not the best panther cartoon out there, but still pretty funny to watch.

The Pink Panther in paradise
TheLittleSongbird17 July 2013
Not one of the best Pink Panther cartoons, but still entertaining. The ending did feel rushed, and one may/will wish that there was more of Pinky. Pinky is still a cool fun character, as well as easy to like, and the story allows his personality to be played to its strengths. And thankfully he does have strong support characters, the little hunter man is an amusing adversary but the dog especially with the howl steals the show. The animation wisely keeps things simple, considering that the Pink Panther cartoons are simple to begin with, the colours are also beautiful and everything is drawn in a way that is not too sparse or static. The music is jazzy and catchy, with the theme tune still not losing any of its timeless value. There are enough gags to keep things going and they all work, being cleverly timed and never less than amusing. The story is simple and perhaps a little on the predictable side but kept at bay by the gags and the zippy pacing. Overall, entertaining and worth recommending even if it lacks that extra something to be one of the best. 8/10 Bethany Cox

My sympathies are largely with the dog

This short (like most of the Pink Panther shorts) is primarily composed of sight gags, given a singular lack of dialog. The humor in this short most often arises from the interaction between the little man who is the frequent foil for the Pink Panther and his dog, rather than much that the star of the series does. The dog is placed in situations which end disastrously for the little man and it looks as though his dog caused bad things to happen, when in fact the dog has been expertly set up to look that way. Several repetitive sight gags later, typically violent and rather painful in appearance, and the dog has been made Canis Non Grata. The closing gag is cute, though repetitive.

Not the best short I've seen and not the worst-about average for the Pink Panther series. This short is available on the Pink Panther Cartoon Collection, along with all the other shorts in the series. Recommended.

Watching this the same week in which . . .

Warning: Spoilers
. . . the hollowed statue of renegade Gen. A. P. Hill was carted away from Monument Avenue in Richmond, a viewer cannot help but see myriad parallels, confluences and similarities between the two. For instance, the antagonist of PINK PARADISE and Powell had the same surname. The former is most often known as Little Man, and Powell went by Little Powell. Toward the close of PARADISE, Little Man gets blown up by a stone wall, and his entire island sinks. Toward the close of Powell's set-to, he's tapped to replace Stonewall after the latter is done in by "friendly" fire, a promotion which dooms his cause, sinking it forever. While the little man keeps firing a blunderbuss, Powell gets thrown under the Blunder Bus of History. Now he's off his pedestal, relegated to obscure cold storage somewhere with the Little Man.

Pink Panther Odyssey Part XXXI

A bit of a strange one this - more focussed on the little man and his abusive relationship with his poor hapless dog than our pink protagonist capering about a desert island. Not enough discs.

The Dog In Here Is An Absolute Howl!
ccthemovieman-120 April 2007
This is another zany Pink Panther cartoon, and a terrific one.....thanks to a little dog, who totally steals the show.

(This is really bizarre but) the Pink Panther walks underwater to a tropical island and then encounters The Great White Hunter and his White Dog.

Most of the cartoon shows the dog defending its master, or protecting his master's property and coming out on the short end of distress each time. It's hard to explain without giving away all the gags, but you really wind up rooting for the little dog against both his master and the Pink Panther. The latter don't provide a lot, if any, humor except in the very beginning and very end....but the dog in here is too much!! His scaredy-cat howl made me laugh every time, but his cuteness and antics were great. I got a lot of laughs out of this one. Highly-recommended, especially if you appreciate a loyal dog.

Where's Pink?
CuriosityKilledShawn9 August 2006
The Pink Panther turns up on a tropical island after walking all the way there under water, holding his breath, with an umbrella up to keep him dry. All he wants is a relaxing vacation but a little hunter man and his faithful dog are disturbing him. So he plays tricks on them.

Pinky is hardly in this cartoon at all and most of the sight gags come from the numerous explosions the little hunter man suffers at the paws of his dog who is so faithful he doesn't realize he shouldn't be playing fetch with a stick of dynamite.

It ain't that funny and there's not much invention to it either. Not really a good vehicle for the Pink Panther and it's almost an exact carbon of 1966's Smile Pretty, Say Pink.
