BND agent Lex Barker thwarts nuclear blackmail threat
17 April 2016 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

"Die Slowly, You'll Enjoy It More" (1967) aka "Mister Dynamit - Morgen küßt euch der Tod" is a Eurospy movie. It's escapist entertainment. When you want to see some foreign locales, a bit of danger and adventure and the athletic imperturbable Lex Barker, this will fill the bill.

Although in the James Bond vein plotwise, with an odd and powerful villain nicely played by Amadeo Nazzari, sexy skimpily-dressed ladies, and a plot that involves threatening Washington's destruction by an atom bomb unless a $1 billion ransom is paid, this is done in the European style and clearly looks European. It's different and reasonably good for a change. The music marks it, for one thing. The beginning has disparate plot threads that are eventually brought together. There's less explanation than in a Bond movie. The editing is less continuous. Barker is more physical than equipped with verbal quips, but the action sequences are not elaborate. It's a lower-budget knockoff yet not cardboard.

This is really for those who like the Europsy genre, the tone and feeling of these movies, the era they invoke and their whimsical gloss. It looks just passable in the widescreen version I watched, being on the faded side. The dubbing was satisfactory. Barker speaks in his own voice, which is a plus.
