Storyline

The Pink Panther walks onto an airfield for an experimental, military jet airplane and, fancying himself as an Air Force pilot, decides to take the airplane on an unauthorized test flight. But the speed of the aircraft is beyond what the panther had anticipated, and because he does not know what the buttons in the cockpit do, the ones that he presses send the airplane into rises, dives, swirls, circles, and low flight over a city. Finally, the Pink Panther activates an ejector seat and is parachuted to the ground, with the parachute opening a second too late. Military Police chase the Pink Panther for him having taken the airplane. Written by Kevin McCorry <mmccorry@nb.sympatico.ca>

Doesn't soar as highly as it could have done, but doesn't crash to a thud either

The Pink Panther cartoons were childhood favourites that still make for great entertainment value. Some of the later ones were a little lacking, but even the weakest ones are nowhere near the worst cartoons ever. Most of them are very good and lots of fun, while the best of them are fantastic. Jet Pink is one of the above average ones, and around the middling mark, neither among the best or the worst. There are some amusing moments, the ending gag was funny, but the gags at their best are never hilarious and humour-wise Jet Pink can feel rather repetitive. The pacing can lack crispness and vitality sometimes as a result, while the story is routine and there is not that much surprise of what was going to happen next. It is well animated though, Pinky has been better drawn but looks good and it is colourful and simple. The music is also a winner, no surprises there as the music is always one of the Pink Panther cartoons' best assets. The music in the cartoon itself accompanying the gags and action is jazzy and has a subtle energy to it. And the theme tune? Even though it's one that can be heard umpteen times it still is very infectious. Pinky is cool and likable as well as having the ability to carry his cartoons easily as you'd expect him to be, the nature of the gags and scenario doesn't allow him to be as funny as he can be but even then he still amuses. In conclusion, lacking but still worth the viewing. 6/10 Bethany Cox
