First Images Of Carey Mulligan In Far From The Madding Crowd

31 October 2013 8:55 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

He had a huge success with false paedophile-thriller The Hunt but Thomas Vinterberg has always been an enormously talented Dutch film maker. He’s been working for a long time, associated at first with the Dogme 95 movement but, since the success of The Hunt, he’s slowly become vastly more “internationally known” – as in, “known in America”.

The news that a hero of Dutch cinema is acheiving fame in the Us is exciting enough, but his big-budget adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s novel Far From The Madding Crowd is looking like it could be the cherry on top of a slow-burning cake. Most likely set for release in 2014, his adaptation stars Carey Mulligan and Bullhead and Rust & Bone‘s Matthias Schoenaerts in the story of what you could call a love square, being Mulligan’s enticement of three different suitors – played by Schoenaerts, Tom Sturridge, and Michael Sheen.

First Images Of Carey Mulligan & Matthias Schoenaerts In Thomas Vinterberg’s ‘Far From The Madding Crowd’

31 October 2013 6:23 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

After landing on cinephile radars with 1998's "The Celebration," Thomas Vinterberg went on a weird and wild cinematic journey. From pictures that didn't or barely got a release stateside, to disappointments like "Dear Wendy" or "It's All About Love," Vinterberg failed to match the acclaim of his Cannes Film Festival Jury Prize-winning film. That's until this year's "The Hunt," the gripping tale of community persecution that earned rave reviews, and more Cannes awards (an Ecumenical Jury Prize for Vinterberg, a Best Actor trophy for Mads Mikkelsen). And the helmer isn't wasting a moment riding that momentum. Last month production started on his star studded adaptation of Thomas Hardy's "Far From The Madding Crowd," and today Empire brings us the official first images from the movie, and yes, we will buy all the tickets. First Look At Far From The Madding Crowd

31 October 2013 2:30 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Although Thomas Hardy was hard at work on his novels when cinema was still in its cot, his work has a distinctly cinematic quality. His rolling countrysides, strapping woodsmen and doomed love affairs have been the stuff of a thousand big-screen romances, not to mention one or two noteworthy adaptations of their own. The latest to dive into 19th century Wessex is Thomas Vinterberg, who's following in John Schlesinger and Stephen Frears' wellie steps in bringing Hardy's most successful novel Far From The Madding Crowd to the screen. These new stills major on Carey Mulligan as Bathsheba Everdene, the Hunger Gamesy-sounding heroine of the tale. Look out, too, for Gabriel Oak (Matthias Schoenaerts), a sheep farmer smitten by her charms, and Frank Troy (Tom Sturridge), an equally lovestruck soldier.Adapted by One Day novelist David Nicholls, Far From The Madding Crowd is the story of an independent, beautiful and »

Sometimes in the film buz you get a second chance to make a great second impression. It took one critically-lauded, unexpected (it was the surprise inclusion at the Cannes film festival in 2012) hit in the award-winning (Best Actor for Mads Mikkelsen) The Hunt to put Thomas Vinterberg on the right side of the tracks again. 98′s The Celebration was all the talk and his follow up critically bashed projects such as It’s All About Love and Dear Wendy took the helmer out of circulation. Now Fox Searchlight Pictures announced that Vinterberg has begun shooting on the U.K shot Far From the Madding Crowd which sees Carey Mulligan, Matthias Schoenaerts, Michael Sheen, Tom Sturridge and one of the busiest actresses in Juno Temple make up the crowd. Thomas Vinterberg to direct Carey Mulligan and Matthias Schoenaerts in 'Far From the Madding Crowd'

When I initially skimmed over today’s press release from Fox Searchlight, I somehow absorbed the information that Tomas Alfredson was directing their new adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s “Far From the Madding Crowd,” and was intrigued by the match of the material to his chilly, literate Swedish sensibility. Upon closer inspection, I was certainly right to be intrigued, but I had the wrong Scandinavian auteur: instead, it’s erstwhile Dogme 95 rebel Thomas Vinterberg who will be steering the prestige production, which began principal photography in the UK today. Best known as a spiky, contemporary provocateur, the 44-year-old Dane is an unlikely fit »

Casting: David Fincher's 'Gone Girl' Has "Blurred Lines," 'Madding Crowd' Gets Bigger & More

It seems that "Blurred Lines" isn't going away anytime soon, and either getting in on the zeitgeist or (much more likely) sensing some potential, David Fincher is borrowing from the pop culture phenomenon. Seen topless throughout the unrated video of the Robin Thicke hit, model-actress Emily Ratajkowski has joined "Gone Girl." The adaptation of Gillian Flynn's novel already has a fairly bonkers supporting cast that includes Tyler Perry, Neil Patrick Harris, Patrick Fugit and Kim Dickens, alongside the two leads, Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. As for Ratajkowski, she'll be playing Affleck's mistress in the flick. Production begins this fall. [The Wrap] Also going in front of cameras is Thomas Vinterberg's "Far From The Madding Crowd," and it too is rounding out the cast. Michael Sheen joins the excellent ensemble of Carey Mulligan, Matthias Schoenaerts,Tom Sturridge and Juno Temple in the adaptation of Thomas Hardy's classic novel centering. »
