Storyline

A rocket carrying four young people--scientific genius Reed Richards, his World War II buddy Ben Grimm, his wife Sue Richards and Sue's hot-headed brother Johnny Storm--is bombarded by cosmic rays while orbiting the Earth. The radiation gives them special powers: Richards can now stretch his limbs, Johnny can burst into flame, Sue can render herself invisible, while Ben has been physically transformed into a big orange rock and given super-strength. They decide to name themselves The Fantastic Four, and use their powers to battle world-dominating villains such as Doctor Doom and The Mole Man. Written by Marty McKee <mmckee@soltec.net>

Trivia

Even though Disney holds the rights to the majority of Marvel's 1960s-1990s animated output, this show was produced by Hanna-Barbera, whose library is now owned by Time Warner, making the series one of only a handful of Marvel-related TV projects not owned by Disney (which has since acquired Marvel outright). Time Warner is also the owner of Marvel's biggest competitor, DC Comics. See more »

Old school comic love
13 April 2001 | by (Warren, OH) – See all my reviews

This cartoon was far better than "the New Fantastic Four" a.k.a. "the one without the Human Torch." This is probably due to the fact that Lee and Kirby had some involvement. My only beef is that Dr. Doom was a bit weak. There's an episode based on an issue with the Sub Mariner, but since his cartoon was done by another company, Namor was replaced by a green sea king named Triton (also the name of one of the Inhumans). Oddly enough, all the other characters remained intact. Kirby later helped Hanna-Barbarra by creating character designs for Thundarr the Barbarian.
