This Week on DVD: Inception, Shrek Forever After, Hunter Prey

8 December 2010 6:36 AM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

There's no question that the biggest DVD and Blu-ray release this week is Christopher Nolan's Inception (with Shrek Forever After also likely to sell a ton of copies), but if you're looking to get some last-minute Christmas gift ideas, you might find a few other odds and ends hitting stores this week as well. Sandy Collora, director of popular fan films Batman: Dead End and World's Finest, has his first feature film Hunter Prey finally out on DVD today, plus the indie comedy Barry Munday starring Patrick Wilson and The Year of Getting to Know Us starring Jimmy Fallon. Some interesting non-fiction releases include Restrepo, Big River Man and Hugh Hefner: Playboy, Activist and Rebel, plus the first volume of the Espn 30 for 30 series. All this plus Criterion Bd releases for Cronos and Videodrome, and for Reed Farrington, it's Trek Stars Go West! What will you be buying or renting this week? »

This Week on DVD: Brooklyn’s Finest, A Single Man, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

6 July 2010 10:49 AM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

I'm not gonna lie, it's a pretty uninteresting week for new releases on DVD and Blu-ray. The only really high profile flick in stores today is Antoine Fuqua's Brooklyn's Finest starring Don Cheadle, Richard Gere, Ethan Hawke and Wesley Snipes. Also out this week is Tom Ford's critically acclaimed drama A Single Man, the Swedish thriller The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and the vampire comedy Bitten starring Jason Mewes. Yep, getting to the bottom of the barrel pretty quickly here. There is also a new special edition re-release of the Buster Keaton classic Steamboat Bill, Jr., and just in time for the World Cup semi-finals, it's Ladybugs on Blu-ray! Will you be buying or renting anything this week? Brooklyn's Finest [1] (+ Blu-ray [2]) A Single Man [3] (+ Blu-ray [4]) The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo [5] (+ Blu-ray [6]) Bitten [7] Eyeborgs [8] (+ Blu-ray [9]) Lost Keaton: Sixteen Comedy Shorts 1934-1937 [10] Steamboat Bill, Jr.: Ultimate Edition [11] (+ Blu-ray »

TV on DVD: July 6, 2010

2 July 2010 10:04 PM, PDT | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

It's around this time that TV DVD releases really start to get amped up. After all, it's the build-up to the fall season, and that means that studios are pushing out their shows on DVD to not only attract new viewers, but to remind old viewers that their show still exists after a long hiatus. It's an effective marketing strategy, though the sudden dump of DVDs might make it hard on fans' wallets.

July is really only the beginning; the major releases won't really start hitting until August. Right now, we're just seeing a smattering of odds and ends hitting the shelves. Here's a look at what shows will be released on DVD come July 6.

Project Runway, Season 7 – I know several people who watch this show, and on occasion, I've given it a view. Its seventh season was not well-received by critics, but the series managed to maintain a solid »
