I remember viewing Rich, Carlin and Greco in this summer replacement series during a, "cross country" vacation in 1967. It was a bit of an adventure finding it on the television dial each week in a different city. I can't recall which regular show this offering filled in for.
As a kid of 10 at the time and being interested in the drums, I started watching it primarily for the chance to see Buddy Rich perform each week. However, it was George Carlin who stole the show with his characters and routines. Imagine Carlin with short hair, wearing a business suit and coming to you from behind a desk as, "Al Sleet, the Hippy-Dippy Weatherman with the Hippy-Dippy weather-MAN!".
I guess that this show is an all but forgotten bit of entertainment from The Summer of Love but it did stick in my memory because I thought George Carlin was absolutely hilarious. Of course Rich was one of the greatest drummers of all time and Buddy Greco more than held his own with the others.
Most definitely a fond television memory.....
