Bitter and hateful, the Grinch is irritated at the thought of the nearby village having a happy time celebrating Christmas. Throughout the movie, the Grinch's eye color is red, indicting his bitter, misanthropic and sneaky personality. But towards the end, where he discovers the true meaning of Christmas by the sight of the still happy rejoicing Whos in the deprived town of Whoville, his eyes turn blue; meaning that he has a change of heart. Every Who down in Whoville liked Christmas a lot, but the Grinch, who lived just north of Whoville - did not. The Grinch hated Christmas - the whole Christmas season. Thurl Ravenscroft received no screen credit for his singing, an oversight Dr. Seuss attempted to rectify by sending letters to every major columnist in America identifying Ravenscroft as the singer on "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch". He is also part of the chorus on the other two songs. See more »
This is the classic. The Best. When it comes to christmas cartoons, this is one of only 2 cartoons that really captures the Christmas Spirit outside of the religious and social aspects of the holiday. And what is not to love with Boris Karloff narrating, Chuck Jones animating, and a story by the loveable Dr Seuss himself!
