Storyline

A lady killer tracked by the police, takes refuge at a psychiatrist's home, and the doctor tells him three stories, to convince him that crime does not pay. In Vienna, an investigative reporter is run down by a car when he is researching a gang that produces fake diamonds; his sister calls a friend for help, and the man almost suffers a similar fate. In Rome, an underground agent is tortured and almost loses his life to get some documents, and free a woman agent from a spy ring, only to be told by his superior that the documents he had got were fake. In San Francisco, a private detective prevents a lady killer from dying, like five other barmaids of the Flamingo nightclub; all the girls had known the identity of the man - who was planning to kill Brazil's president during the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro. Trivia

The three lead actors Pierre Brice, Lex Barker and Stewart Granger were very familiar to audiences in German speaking countries, because of their appearances as the heroes in numerous films based on the novels of Karl May. Pierre Brice had played the iconic title character in Winnetou (1963) and the sequels, Lex Barker had played Old Shatterhand in the same film and some of it's sequels as well as the heroes in the various other adventure films based on Karl May novels, and Stewart Granger had played Old Surehand in some of the Winnetou sequels. While Pierre Brice had worked repeatedly with both Lex Barker and Stewart Granger, this is the first and only film featuring all three actors together. See more »

David Porter (Vienna segment): Who the devil are you?
Monique Carrar (Vienna segment): You're David Porter.
David Porter (Vienna segment): Is that what you came here to tell me?
Monique Carrar (Vienna segment): I'm Monique Carrar.
David Porter (Vienna segment): Well, how do you do? Now, Karl, would you show the young lady out. And then come back and tell me why you showed her in.

Weak spy pastiche
22 June 2008 | by See all my reviews

In the middle of the night, a man wanted by the police for multiple murders breaks into the house of a professor and holds him captive at knifepoint. The professor tries to convince him to give himself up, by telling him three stories about how criminals always get caught in the end. In the first story, set in Vienna, Stewart Granger (who was too old for his role here) is a suave and shady character investigating the death of a reporter who was tracing a drug ring around the world; in the second story, set in Rome and, unlike the other two, played mostly as a slapstick comedy, Pierre Brice is a secret agent trying to deliver some important documents to his boss while being chased by a gang led by a woman with a whip; in the third story, set in San Francisco and Rio, Lex Barker is a private detective trying to stop a political assassination plot by posing as the assassin himself. In the end, there is a major plot twist that tries to tie everything together, but the film ends up making even less sense than before! Some of the "names" in the cast (Klaus Kinski, Karin Dor of "Topaz") have very limited screen time, and although the film does boast a variety of international locations, the three episodes generate little excitement or (if that was the purpose of the second story) laughter. For 60's spy-movie completists only. (*1/2)
