Storyline

Jim Phelps is the head of a super-secret government agency ("Impossible Missions"), and is often given secret anonymous covert missions to attempt; quite often they are unmasking of criminals or the rescuing of hostages. He picks his team depending on which tasks need to be done. One thing is vital on an Impossible Mission: the mission must be carried out in entire secrecy, often relying on high-tech equipment and elaborate deceptions. Trivia

The show reused many stars in different roles as different people. For example: John Vernon appeared as Colonel Josef Strom ("The Exchange"), General Ramon Sabattini ("The Falcon"), Ramone Fuego ("The Catafalque") and Norman Shields ("Movie"). William Windom appeared as Paul Mitchell ("The Fighter"), Stu Gorman ("Blues"), Alex Cresnic ("The Widow") and Deputy Premier Milos Pavel ("The Train"). This was a common practice on long running TV shows in the 1960s. See more »

Goofs

In numerous episodes one of the characters will unscrew an electrical outlet, then reach in and pull it out of the wall by grasping the sides of the outlet. This would put their fingers in direct contact with the wiring resulting in, at the very least, a severe shock. See more »

Quotes

Voice on Tape: Good morning Mister Briggs.

Crazy Credits

Many episodes end with a freeze-framed pan-and-tilt shot of the IMF team's getaway vehicle, with series creator Bruce Geller's credit superimposed over the shot. See more »

One of the greatest drama shows
24 June 2005 | by (Bradenton, Florida) – See all my reviews

To all the "younguns" out there, please take note: THIS TV SHOW WAS GREAT AND HAS ALMOST NOTHING TO DO WITH THE STUPID TOM CRUISE FLICKS BY THE SAME NAME!!!!! This was a thinking man's show--complete with intricate plots, action and decent acting. The movies, in contrast, are designed for dumb people--people who don't care that the action and stunts make no sense or don't fit into the general plot. And, people who don't mind that the hero from the TV series is now the villain! Avoid the movies like the plague and seek out the series! They are on video but have not been shown on TV for quite a long time. Perhaps Paramount Studios is keeping them under wraps, as they would show up the recent crap they have packaged as "Mission: Impossible".
