Early Reaction: The Green Hornet Is Inconsistent, Entertaining And Funny

17 December 2010 2:36 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

The Green Hornet is the combination of a lot of things we never expected or necessarily wanted to see working together-- the writers of Superbad, the director of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, the star of Knocked Up, and a second-tier comic book property known primarily for bringing Bruce Lee to American television. It's still unclear why exactly we need The Green Hornet again, especially in this era of superhero overload, but the movie The Green Hornet, shaggy and inconsistent as it is, makes a pretty good argument for its own existence all the same. I saw The Green Hornet at an advance screening earlier this week, and I'm not allowed to tell you too much about it, though to get into specific details would require untangling the movie's messy script, an effort that's not really worth it. I'll tell you that the audience I saw it with-- mostly »

World Cinema: Bruce Lee

17 November 2010 2:07 AM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

In this week’s World Cinema column, Nick looks back at the career of Bruce Lee and the kung fu star's lasting cultural impact…

Whatever your relationship to cinema is, whether casual fan or rabid aficionado, Bruce Lee is one name you are guaranteed to have heard of. As more than one person has said to me, he is the reason a lot of people have expanded their film watching from English language films to subtitled ones.

In film history, pop culture, and cultural terms, he is a vital presence and justifiably a legend, despite his all-too-short five film career. The good die young as they say, and in Lee that is most definitely the case. But just why is he such an iconic figure, to not only Eastern audiences, but to Western ones equally? How did this one man fuse together disparate cultures in a time frame noted for »

What happened to comic book movies in the 1990s?

5 November 2010 6:03 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

With the movie schedules jam-packed with comic book movies right now, why was the 1990s so poor for them? Simon finds out…

It's already been pointed out far and wide on the Internet, but the summer schedules for the next two years are looking jam-packed with blockbusters. And more and more of them are being derived from a comic book source. Furthermore, it's not even the summer alone that's playing host to such films, either.

Next January, for instance, in a completely out-of-season slot, we get The Green Hornet. And that's going to kick off a series of films that includes two new X-Men movies, at least, Thor, Captain America, The Dark Knight Rises, Ghost Rider 2, The Avengers, The Green Lantern, possibly Deadpool, Iron Man 3, G.I. Joe 2, Sucker Punch, Pride And Prejudice And Zombies, Superman, Fantastic Four and Daredevil reboots, Ant-Man, and Judge Dredd. That's just for starters, and »

Movie Geek rides in The Green Hornet’S Black Beauty!

21 October 2010 8:53 PM, PDT | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

I always like the simplicity of The Green Hornet.s .Black Beauty.. The 1966 Chrysler Imperial was boxy yet streamlined, unadorned with logos and emblems and really lived up to its name. I had the Aurora model kit of the car as a kid as well as the die-cast Corgi toy that shot day-glow red missiles out of the front. I recently purchased repro toys of both of these and still have an original Green Hornet lunchbox. I was thrilled to hear that they were going to use the same make of car for the upcoming Green Hornet movie starring Seth Rogan. Columbia Pictures is taking the new Black Beauty on the road for a promotional tour and it was parked at the Ronnies Cinema here in St. Louis last night so I went up there to see it.  There were plenty of people standing around looking at it, and when »

While farting around in New York, Latinoreview's Kellvin Chavez snapped a pic of the brand new Green Hornet poster that's been buzzing its way into theaters. I hadn't seen this poster online yet so I thought you guys would like a first look at it. "Hornet" follows the adventures of Britt Reid, a bored playboy who inherits his father's crusading newspaper, the Daily Sentinel. By night he is a masked hero, fighting crime with his sidekick Kato, who has incredible martial-arts skills. I need to find a better synopsis than that one. But until I do, here's your first look at the new Green Hornet poster. The Green Hornet shoots its way into theaters January 14th, 2011. Source: Latinoreview »
