Average Paella Western shot in Spain with little action and starred by a ¨B¨ American idol
15 May 2006 | by See all my reviews

The film concerns about Ray O'Brian (George Montgomery) , an outlaw from Texas accused of killing his wife . He is an underling of Camargo (Jose Nieto), a known bandit become Mexican General. Besides , there appears Riaño (Jesus Tordesillas), an emperor Maximiliano's supporter, and his two nephews named Francisca Riaño (Elisa Montes ) and Alfredo (Ricardo Valle) . Camargo is profoundly enemy of Espada who hurts to O'Brian, Camargo then revenges and executes a raid on the Espada's village , killing even a kid . Camargo wants to marry Francisca .But suddenly Alfredo Riaño appears dead by a shot . Who is the killer? . O'Brian must find the real culprit amidst various suspects. Can he find the guilty?.

This Chorizo Western contains an intrigue in which the starring is the detective to investigate who is the murderer. It's one of the numerous European Westerns anterior to ¨boom¨ Sergio Leone films and follows the USA Western models . It isn't an usual Spaghetti Western ,this one is a cheap Western shot in Almeria (Spain) where during the 60s were filmed several Spanish-Italian Western or in co-production with US. There are action and shootouts but no too much but the little action sequences are effective as the raid on the small town. The protagonist is a famous actor who starred B series called George Montgomery . He was born to Ukranian immigrants and was a heavyweight boxer previously becoming an actor . Besides was a magnificent craftsman and built and designed houses, plus a self-taught artist, creating bronze busts for famed actors . He starred movies around the world and diverse genres : adventures (Watusi,Steel claw) , Warlike (Battle of Bulge, Hell of Borneo) and specially Western (Seminola uprising, Fort Ti, Last of badmen, Great duel in Durango ). The motion picture is regularly directed by Maury Dexter. Rating : Average. This Western could have been a lot worse but that's no reason to watch it.
