Dull and confusing spaghetti space opera, 3 June 2007
Author: TheMarquisDeSuave from Worcester, MA

While I love their westerns, Gothic horrors, and peplums (heck, even the spy-films are somewhat enjoyable), the Italian's space opera films are mostly a dull bunch. Only "Planet of the Vampires" and possibly "Assignment: Outer Space" are any fun. "War Between the Planets" is no exception. Its confusing, predictable, and, worst of all, dull. Even the action scenes feature such anemic direction they're bound to put you to sleep.

The film opens with a narration explaining the setup. I've always disliked narration in science fiction films for some reason. Not only do they explain whats obviously happening on-screen, they often include such minute detail they make the film confusing. The dialog itself in this film is full of annoying pseudo-science that doesn't amuse, just alienate the viewer. The characters are all one-note. There's the arrogant commander, the rebel with a heart co-commander, and the voice of reason female. None of them ever show expressions that don't adhere to those personalities. I really can't think of too much to recommend about this bore. "War Between the Planets" is the kind of film that makes you want to pick up a good book (and I don't mean that as a positive thing). (2/10)
