Upwardly mobile businessman Cliff Newhall (Gary Kent) moves from Grand Rapids to Los Angeles with wife Mindy (Lee Anna) in tow. The lecherous Cliff thinks nothing of ogling other women right in front of his wife, and his new neighborhood is certainly full of very striking ladies: sexually uninhibited Joanie (Maureen Gaffney) and intimidating, bisexual nightclub owner Tanya (Verne Martine) who has a side job as a dominatrix.
This early effort from B movie director Ted V. Mikels ("The Astro-Zombies", "The Corpse Grinders") is not quite the wanton display of sex and kinkiness that I was led to expect. It's certainly got those elements, and the copious amount of female nudity ensures a respectable titillation factor, but the slowness and seriousness of this piece was entirely unexpected. It turns out to be a bit of an examination on folks who don't seem to be interested in much besides booze and sex, ending on a rather heartfelt final note as Cliff and Mindy realize the depths to which they are sinking.
Highlighted by a funky score, this tawdry but also affecting and somewhat interesting melodrama turns out to be something more than mere exploitation. It's actually not badly made given Mikels' reputation for producing real schlock, and is worthy of some respect.
