User Reviews

Very good movie by Mario Camus.
13 November 2013 | by (Spain) – See all my reviews

Film based on the novel of the writer Ignacio Aldecoa, where Antonio Gades surprises us with a wonderful interpretation but his real genius is in the dance. However, jumping of Veleta Rovira to Mario Camus , and then to Carlos Saura ...... Gades has come to be understood as three films nominated for the Oscar for best foreign film.

In this film he plays a gypsy "Sebastian" very temperamental and violent, that rudely treated his girlfriend "Lupe" (María José Alfonso ) and along with his partner and after a drunken shooting against a Civil Guard kills. His life will change then to check the loneliness and rejection you get from his family and friends.

Extraordinary work of Director Mario Camus, gorgeous close-ups and essential and pace appropriate to the story you want to have the end result of a great film worthy of being seen by lovers of good Spanish Cinema. Antonio Gades is marked a brief dances where you can appreciate his talent, and the rest of the cast is extraordinary as Antonio Ferrandis, María José Alfonso, Maria Luisa Ponte, Vicente Escudero, Erasmo Pascual, Jose Sepulveda ... and a pleasant appearance of Imperio Argentina as mother of "Sebastia ".

The most interesting, in my opinion, is that this film teaches us as were the small towns in the 60 Spanish , Montearagón, Cogolludos.... that landscape pure and simple...... Castilian parties in these localities, livestock markets , the drinking of the people..... If you see this film as a documentary of life in those years we like even more.
